Analysis of one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of a saturated lumpy porous clay layer
Computers and Geotechnics, 2021Abstract In reclamation projects, excavated clay is dumped without any compaction to form a landfill with a heterogeneous pore structure. In this clay, interlump fissures is several orders of magnitude larger than intralump pores, forming lumpy porous clay with double porosity.

The one-dimensional consolidation of a thick clay layer, initially consolidated fully under its own weight, is considered. Account is taken of the variation of the coefficients of permeability and compressibility as consolidation proceeds. To render the theory consistent finite strains are permitted.

Solution of some nonlinear one‐dimensional consolidation problems
Communications in Applied Numerical Methods, 1987AbstractThe analysis of nonlinear one‐dimensional consolidation of clay is considered. An algorithm is presented which allows nonlinear clay parameters to be accommodated in the prediction of both the magnitude and the rate of consolidation. The method is based on the finite element solution of Biot's coupled consolidation problem, together with a ...
