Surface plasmon resonance based sensor using one-dimensional photonic crystal

open access: yesResults in Optics, 2023
A surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based sensor is presented for the optical sensing that employs one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC). An interface of a metal and 1DPC is utilized to excite the surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) waves using prism ...

One-dimensional photonic crystal optical limiter

open access: yesOptics Express, 2003
We explore a new passive optical limiter design using transverse modulation instability in the one-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) using x(3) materials. The performance of PC optical limiters strongly depends on the choice of the materials and the geometry and it improves as the duration of the incident pulse is extended.

Annular one-dimensional photonic crystals for salinity sensing

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
AbstractThe use of annular one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals (PCs) for salinity sensing is studied in this research. Annular 1D-PCs provide small and integrated structures that facilitate the creation of portable and miniaturized sensor equipment appropriate for field use.

Trapped atoms in one-dimensional photonic crystals

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
We describe one-dimensional photonic crystals that support a guided mode suitable for atom trapping within a unit cell, as well as a second probe mode with strong atom-photon interactions. A new hybrid trap is analyzed that combines optical and Casimir-Polder forces to form stable traps for neutral atoms in dielectric nanostructures. By suitable design

Temperature sensor utilizing a ternary photonic crystal with a polymer layer sandwiched between Si and SiO2 layers

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical and Applied Physics, 2018
Recently, one-dimensional periodic ternary photonic crystals have shown outstanding properties when compared to one-dimensional periodic binary photonic crystals. In this work, a ternary photonic crystal is proposed as a temperature sensor. The structure

On the relation between the propagation constant of Bloch surface waves and the thickness of the upper layer of a photonic crystal [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика, 2018
We consider the derivation of a dispersion relation of Bloch surface waves supported by interfaces between a semi-infinite one-dimensional photonic crystal and a homogeneous medium.

Fluorescence diffraction assisted by Bloch surface waves on a one-dimensional photonic crystal

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
The use of linear and circular subwavelength gratings for improving the fluorescence extraction from organic dyes spotted on the surface of a one-dimensional photonic crystal is demonstrated.

Straightening of light in a one dimensional dilute photonic crystal [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractLight transport in a dilute photonic crystal is considered. The analytical expression for the transmission coefficient is derived. Straightening of light under certain conditions in a one-dimensional photonic crystal is predicted. Such behavior is caused by the formation of a localized state in transversal motion.

Active microcavity and coupled cavities in one-dimensional photonic crystal [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2007
The propagation of light in one-dimensional SiO2-TiO2 coupled cavity photonic crystal is investigated. In particular the potential application in light amplification is proposed considering the small group velocity that characterizes the propagation at ...

One-dimensional photonic crystals with cylindrical geometry

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
A one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) consisting of a stack of alternate TiO(2) and Al(2)O(3) layers is deposited on the side wall of a glass rod by Atomic Layer Deposition. The stack is designed to sustain TE-polarized Bloch Surface Waves (BSW) in the visible spectrum at wavelengths shorter than 650 nm.
