Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Antagonistic activity of Bacillus velezensis L09 isolated from crocodile gut against Aeromonas dhakensis: Mechanisms and potential for aquaculture applications

open access: yesWater Biology and Security
The global aquaculture industry is facing increasing threats from multidrug-resistant pathogens, particularly Aeromonas dhakensis, which causes septicemia in crocodiles, causes severe infections in aquatic species, and poses zoonotic risks to humans.

A one health economy

open access: yesGlobal Bioethics
One of the ways that environmental inequalities manifest is through the market economy. Research increasingly shows how the weight of capitalist interests cause disequilibria in nature: these imbalances spread to the welfare of animals and back to humans through socio-economic interactions.

One Health and Zoonoses: The Evolution of One Health and Incorporation of Zoonoses

open access: yesCentral Asian Journal of Global Health, 2015
Introduction: Zoonotic disease outbreaks have surged in the last two decades. These include severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Hendra virus, Nipah virus, influenza viruses, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus, and ebola. One Health is the initiative of an inclusive collaboration linking human, animal, and environmental health ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Stage-Specific Effects of Silver Nanoparticles on Physiology During the Early Growth Stages of Rice

open access: yesPlants
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), widely utilized nanomaterials, can negatively affect crop growth and development. However, it remains unclear whether crops exhibit similar responses to AgNPs stress at seed germination and seedling stages.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Eating distractions as predictors of ultra-processed food consumption and Mediterranean diet adherence in adolescents

open access: yesScientific Reports
Previous studies have examined the relationships between some eating distractions and diet quality in the young population. However, to our knowledge, no study has analyzed the associations between multiple eating distractions (e.g., using a mobile phone,

Variations in mesothelioma mortality rates among migrants to Australia and Australian-born

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Australia's use and consumption of asbestos occurred at the same time as its immigration boom. Our objective was to investigate mesothelioma death rates among migrants and Australian-born between 1981 and 2012.
