Biodiversity, Phylogeny, and Evolutionary Dynamics of Gall Midges on Japanese Beech Trees

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
Leaf galls of 29 types were collected from Japanese endemic beech trees (Fagus L.). Most of the gall inducers formed a monophyletic clade within the tribe Dasineurini. The Fagus‐feeding gall midges underwent adaptive radiation since the Miocene, accompanied by multiple host shifts between F. crenata and F. japonica.

Identities of and Phenotypic Variation for Epicuticular Waxes among Leaves and Plants from Inbred Onion Populations

open access: yesHortScience, 2020
The amounts and types of epicuticular waxes on onion (Allium cepa) leaves affect feeding damage by onion thrips (Thrips tabaci). This study used gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) to establish the identities of waxes and measure over time wax ...

Inter‐ and intraspecific variation in performance of thrips on Chrysanthemum accessions

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 7, Page 674-683, July 2025.
Fitness of pests on host plants can differ between populations and species. Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) was collected at five locations in the Netherlands, and their genetic diversity was characterized, revealing the presence of both the glasshouse and lupin strain.

Life history parameters of Thrips tabaci (Thys.: Thripidae) on cucumber, sweet pepper and eggplant under laboratory conditions [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2006
Onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman, is one of the most important pests of vegetables and ornamentals all over the world. Its role has been proved in the transmission of different viruses to several plants.

Discovery and biological characterization of a novel mesoionic insecticide fenmezoditiaz

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 5, Page 2535-2552, May 2025.
Acetylcholine binding protein (AChBP) from the sea slug Aplysia californica was modified using site‐directed mutagenesis to create an insect‐like binding site enabling structure‐based compound design. Fenmezoditiaz is a systemic insecticide with a broad spectrum, lack of cross‐resistance and an additional tool for integrated pest management and ...

Herbivore prevalence poorly predicts yield in diverse cropping systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 5, Page 1229-1242, May 2025.
Our study shows that the design and characteristics of cropping systems should be considered when assessing insect herbivory effects on crop yield. As herbivorous insects have a smaller impact on yield in diverse cropping systems, crop diversification may synergize biodiversity conservation and food production. Abstract Industrialized agriculture needs

Biological control of the onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), in open fields using Egyptian entomopathogenic nematode isolates

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2018
Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) of families Heterorhabditidae and Steinernematidae are known to be effective against a variety of pests. In the present work, different EPNs that are isolated from the Egyptian environment were tested against the onion ...
