Optimization of treatment planning workflow and tumor coverage during daily adaptive magnetic resonance image guided radiation therapy (MR-IGRT) of pancreatic cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background To simplify the adaptive treatment planning workflow while achieving the optimal tumor-dose coverage in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing daily adaptive magnetic resonance image guided radiation therapy (MR-IGRT). Methods In daily adaptive

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

CBCT-to-CT synthesis with a single neural network for head-and-neck, lung and breast cancer adaptive radiotherapy

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: CBCT-based adaptive radiotherapy requires daily images for accurate dose calculations. This study investigates the feasibility of applying a single convolutional network to facilitate CBCT-to-CT synthesis for head-and-neck, lung, and breast ...

Comparison of 3 image-guided adaptive strategies for bladder locoregional radiotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The objective of this study was to compare the dosimetric differences of a population-based planning target volume (PTV) approach and 3 proposed adaptive strategies: plan of the day (POD), patient-specific PTV (PS-PTV), and daily reoptimization (ReOpt ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Comparison of cone beam computed tomography post-processing methods for online adaptive proton therapy of prostate cancer

open access: yesPhysics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology
Background and purpose: Although cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) enables online adaptive radiotherapy, its CT number accuracy may be insufficient for online adaptive proton therapy (OAPT). We compared proton dose distributions calculated directly on

Targeted therapies in the management of locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer: a systematic review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Pancreatic cancer has a dismal prognosis particularly in patients presenting with unresectable tumors. We performed a bibliometric analysis of clinical trials for pancreatic cancer conducted between 2014-2016 focusing on patients that presented with ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Online classifier adaptation for cost-sensitive learning

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we propose the problem of online cost-sensitive clas- sifier adaptation and the first algorithm to solve it. We assume we have a base classifier for a cost-sensitive classification problem, but it is trained with respect to a cost setting ...
