GPU-based ultra-fast direct aperture optimization for online adaptive radiation therapy

open access: yes, 2010
Online adaptive radiation therapy (ART) has great promise to significantly reduce normal tissue toxicity and/or improve tumor control through real-time treatment adaptations based on the current patient anatomy.

Patient-specific neural networks for contour propagation in online adaptive radiotherapy

open access: yesPhysics in Medicine & Biology, 2023
Abstract Objective. fast and accurate contouring of daily 3D images is a prerequisite for online adaptive radiotherapy. Current automatic techniques rely either on contour propagation with registration or deep learning (DL) based segmentation with convolutional neural networks (CNNs).

A GPU-based finite-size pencil beam algorithm with 3D-density correction for radiotherapy dose calculation

open access: yes, 2011
Targeting at the development of an accurate and efficient dose calculation engine for online adaptive radiotherapy, we have implemented a finite size pencil beam (FSPB) algorithm with a 3D-density correction method on GPU.

Accurate, robust and harmonized implementation of morpho-functional imaging in treatment planning for personalized radiotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this work we present a methodology able to use harmonized PET/CT imaging in dose painting by number (DPBN) approach by means of a robust and accurate treatment planning system.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Online adaptive magnetic resonance guided radiotherapy for pancreatic cancer: state of the art, pearls and pitfalls

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2019
Background Different studies have proved in recent years that hypofractionated radiotherapy (RT) improves overall survival of patients affected by locally advanced, unresectable, pancreatic cancer.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Protocol of a phase II study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of deep-inspiration breath-hold daily online adaptive radiotherapy for centrally located lung tumours (PUDDING study)

open access: yesRadiation Oncology
Background Centrally located lung tumours present a challenge because of their tendency to exhibit symptoms such as airway obstruction, atelectasis, and bleeding. Surgical resection of these tumours often requires sacrificing the lungs, making definitive

Implementing cone-beam computed tomography-guided online adaptive radiotherapy in cervical cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Radiation Oncology, 2023
Background and purpose: Adaptive radiotherapy (ART) in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) has shown promising outcomes. This study investigated the feasibility of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-guided online ART (oART) for the treatment of ...

Intein‐based modular chimeric antigen receptor platform for specific CD19/CD20 co‐targeting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CARtein is a modular CAR platform that uses split inteins to splice antigen‐recognition modules onto a universal signaling backbone, enabling precise, scarless assembly without re‐engineering signaling domains. Deployed here against CD19 and CD20 in B‐cell malignancies, the design supports flexible multi‐antigen targeting to boost T‐cell activation and
