Phenolic glycosides of forage legume Onobrychis viciifolia

Phytochemistry, 2000
A chemical examination of the extractives of the leaves of sainfoin was undertaken as part of a programme directed at understanding the factors which may contribute to its nutritive value as animal feed. Among the low molecular weight phenolic compounds characterized were seven cinnamic acid derivatives and nine flavonoid glycosides all of which were ...

Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia): a beneficial forage legume

Plant Genetic Resources, 2011
The Onobrychis genus comprises a few agronomically important forage legume species, with sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) being the most widespread. O. viciifolia has a long history of traditional culture worldwide, but its use has declined in western countries over the last decades.

Structure of the xylan of Onobrychis viciifolia

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1973
1. Among the polysaccharides ofOnobrychis viciifolia has been found a glucuronoxylan the main chain of which is constructed of β-D-xylopyranose units linked by the 1 → 4 carbon atoms. In the one-unit side chains there are residues of D-glucuronic and 4-O-methyl-D-glucuronic acids and also of β-D-xylopyranose attached to the main chain through the ...

Exploring Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) Seed Flour as a Sustainable Plant‐Based Food: Germination‐Induced Changes in Nutritional Quality, Anti‐Nutritional Factors, Phenolic Content, Bioaccessibility, and In Vitro Toxicity

Cereal Chemistry
Sainfoin is a drought‐resistant perennial plant mainly used as animal feed, but its seeds remain underexplored as a food source. This study investigates the effects of germination on the nutritional quality of dehulled sainfoin seeds.

Acylated flavonol glycosides from the forage legume, Onobrychis viciifolia (sainfoin)

Phytochemistry, 2011
Ten acylated flavonol glycosides were isolated from aqueous acetone extracts of the aerial parts of the forage legume, Onobrychis viciifolia, and their structures determined using spectroscopic methods. Among these were eight previously unreported examples which comprised either feruloylated or sinapoylated derivatives of 3-O-di- and 3-O-triglycosides ...
