A Survey on Ontologies’ Adaptability and Interoperability

open access: yesCybernetics and Information Technologies
Interoperability issues emerge due to differences in the sizes and expressive powers of ontologies. Although ontologies are expressive, they tend to lack flexibility. Research shows that specialized ontologies are not merely advantageous for a particular

CroMatcher 2.0: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Improved Ontology Matching System

open access: yesIEEE Access
One of the main challenges in ontology matching is to match ontologies with high accuracy. Therefore, ontology matching systems typically use multiple basic matchers, each targeting a specific ontology component for the matching process.

Deciphering the Role of Cancer Stem Cells in Breast Cancer Brain Colonization Using a Novel Patient‐Derived Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that stem‐like cells isolated from breast cancer brain metastases drive the spread and growth of tumors in the brain. Among them, a highly adhesive subgroup initiates metastasis and resists many drugs. By closely reflecting patient tumors, these models help identify new targets and improve the development of effective treatments ...

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Progressive Ontology Alignment for Meaning Coordination: an Information-Theoretic Foundation

open access: yes, 2005
We elaborate on the mathematical foundations of the meaning coordination problem that agents face in open environments. We investigate to which extend the Barwise-Seligman theory of information flow provides a faithful theoretical description of the ...

Some Issues on Ontology Integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The word integration has been used with different meanings in the ontology field. This article aims at clarifying the meaning of the word “integration” and presenting some of the relevant work done in integration.

Arabic Language Alignment with English Ontologies: Some Ontological Reflections

open access: yes2018 IEEE 5th International Congress on Information Science and Technology (CiSt), 2018
There have been several attempts to build lexico-conceptual resources by extension of the English WordNet, i.e. by means of translation of English synsets. However, the extension approach is arguable because it assumes that the target resource is isomorphic to English WordNet. Yet, some languages, such as English and Arabic, can be very different.

Bottom‐Up Programming of Cell States in Cancer Organoids with Defined Synthetic Adhesion Cues

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bottom‐up biomaterial platform is developed to program transcriptomic states in pancreatic cancer organoids by tuning adhesion cues within synthetic matrices. By combining a Design of Experiments framework with multiobjective optimization, matrix compositions are identified that enrich specific cellular programs like EMT.

A Nano‐Interception Strategy for Chronic Heart Failure: Prussian Blue Nanoparticles Disrupt Fibroblast‐Immune Communication via CCL2 Sequestration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A nano‐interception strategy disrupts pathogenic fibroblast–macrophage crosstalk in chronic heart failure. Scalable Prussian blue nanoparticles selectively sequester CCL2 via ultrahigh‐affinity binding, preventing CCR2+ macrophage recruitment and breaking a key fibro‐inflammatory circuit. This approach demonstrates robust efficacy in murine and porcine

An ontology of mechanisms of action in behaviour change interventions [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research
Background Behaviour change interventions influence behaviour through causal processes called “mechanisms of action” (MoAs). Reports of such interventions and their evaluations often use inconsistent or ambiguous terminology, creating problems for ...
