LDPC code design for OOK modulated Poisson optical channels

2013 47th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), 2013
The Poisson channel is a popular direct-detection model in optical communication. In this paper, we study efficient data communication over the on-off keyed (OOK) modulated Poisson channel. We first analyze the channel capacity, and based on the analysis we study the application of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes on such channels.

Performance Analysis on Hybrid OOK-and-OFDM Modulation in VLC System

2019 IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (BMSB), 2019
Since visible light communication (VLC) could support high-speed broadband transmission and be combined with existing illumination system, it is an optional technology for multimedia broadcasting, especially for indoor scenario. Further-more, hybrid modulation could be applied in VLC system to assist data transmission or expand new functions ...

Performance analysis of NRZ-OOK, RZ-OOK and 8QAM modulated VCSEL based optical link

2019 International Conference on Computer, Communication, Chemical, Materials and Electronic Engineering (IC4ME2), 2019
A 40km long error free optical fiber at 10Gb/s bit rate is demonstrated. The analysis includes the consumption of power, dependency on temperature, Q factor and BER of the system model. The performance analysis is done at 1550 nm wavelength for NRZ-OOK, RZ-OOK and 8-QAM modulated system.

Simulated Study for OOK Modulation in the Mud Pulse Telemetry

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
Mud pulse telemetry (MPT) transmits data from borehole to surface during the drilling process. Pressure wave is generated in the drilling channel and is used as carrier of the downhole data. Through numerical simulation, this paper analyzes the bit error rate (BER) of mud pulse telemetry under different signal to noise ratio (SNR) based on on-off ...

Performance Analysis of OOK Modulated Signals in the Presence of ADC Quantization Noise

2012 IEEE 75th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring), 2012
This paper investigates the word length requirement of an analog-to-digital (ADC) converter for coherent and non-coherent detection of On-Off Keying (OOK) schemes. The paper presents closed-form expressions for coherent and non-coherent detection in terms of bit error rate in the presence of quantization noise (QN) and additive white Gaussian noise ...

An OOK-modulator at 240 GHz with 20 GHz bandwidth

2016 German Microwave Conference (GeMiC), 2016
In this paper, we present an on-off-keying (OOK) modulator with a local oscilator (LO) at 240 GHz for incoherent high data rate communication systems. The modulator topology is similar to a selector where one of the data inputs is connected to the ground and the baseband signal is fed to the clock input.

Modulation Format Conversion From BPSK and OOK to 8QAM

Advanced Photonics 2018 (BGPP, IPR, NP, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2018
We propose a modulation format conversion method from BPSK and OOK to 8QAM by using coherent superposition in a DLI, XPM and XGM in an SOA. Numerical simulation reveals that error-free format conversion is achieved.

High-speed VCSELs for OOK and multilevel PAM modulation

2017 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC), 2017
The short-reach optical interconnects used in datacenters and high-performance computing systems are dominated by vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and multimode fiber (MMF) links1. The VCSEL-MMF technology is the most cost and power efficient and offers the smallest footprint.

A 100 GHz LO Cancellation Based High Speed OOK Modulator

2020 International SoC Design Conference (ISOCC), 2020
This paper presents a high speed On-Off Keying (OOK) modulator using local oscillator (LO) cancellation technique. Implemented in 28 nm bulk CMOS process, a 100 GHz modulator post layout full-wave EM simulation results are executed for data-rate up to 50 Gbps. The modulator has on-off isolation of 21.6 dB.

Comparative Study of Different Switch Implementations for Ook Modulator

2014 International Conference on Devices, Circuits and Communications (ICDCCom), 2014
Modulation is an imperative part of the communication world. On-Off Keying modulation is the simplest form of modulation which offers many advantages such as reduced power dissipation and lower bandwidth when compared with other modulation schemes. Switch design forms the most critical part in an OOK modulator.
