Optimized ANFIS-Genetic Algorithm-Particle Swarm Optimization Model for Estimation of Side Orifices Discharge Coefficient [PDF]
Generally, side orifices are installed on side walls of the main channels for regulating and controlling water. In this study, a novel hybrid model was developed in order to estimate discharge coefficient of circular and rectangular side orifices.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Non-equilibrium stochastic dynamics of open ion channels [PDF]
We present and discuss a modified version of reaction rate theory (RRT) to describe the passage of a positive ion through a biological ion channel. It takes explicit account of the non-equilibrium nature of the permeation process. Unlike traditional RRT,

Sound radiation in turbulent channel flows [PDF]
Lighthill’s acoustic analogy is formulated for turbulent channel flow with pressure as the acoustic variable, and integrated over the channel width to produce a two-dimensional inhomogeneous wave equation.

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Channel-facilitated diffusion boosted by particle binding at the channel entrance [PDF]
We investigate single-file diffusion of Brownian particles in arrays of closely confining microchannels permeated by a variety of attractive optical potentials and connecting two baths with equal particle concentration.

Universality of Turbulent Dispersion in a Steady Flow in an Open Channel [PDF]
We construct a low-dimensional depth-averaged model of turbulent dispersion of tracers in an open channel flow. Two types of the average velocity profile are considered.

The uncertainty of the calculative value of the volumetric flow rate in open channel [PDF]
The well-known Manning formula is usually used for the calculation of the calculative volumetric flow rate in a river or open canal. The discharge depends on the geometry of the channel, i.e. the water area, the wetted perimeter and the slope, as well as

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
