Contributions to single-shot energy exchanges in open quantum systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The exchange of energy between a classical open system and its environment can be analyzed for a single run of an experiment using the phase-space trajectory of the system. By contrast, in the quantum regime such energy exchange processes must be defined

Thermodynamic length in open quantum systems [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum, 2019
The dissipation generated during a quasistatic thermodynamic process can be characterised by introducing a metric on the space of Gibbs states, in such a way that minimally-dissipating protocols correspond to geodesic trajectories.

UNCERTAINTY RELATION FOR A QUANTUM OPEN SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 1995
We derive the uncertainty relation for a quantum open system consisting of a Brownian particle interacting with a bath of quantum oscillators at finite temperature. We examine how the quantum and thermal fluctuations of the environment contribute to the uncertainty in the canonical variables of the system.

High fidelity quantum gates of trapped ions in the presence of motional heating

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
We describe entangling quantum gates for trapped ions mediated by a dissipative bus mode and show that suitably designed, polychromatic control pulses decrease ion-phonon entanglement substantially while maintaining the mediated interaction.

Simulation-assisted learning of open quantum systems [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum
Models for open quantum systems, which play important roles in electron transport problems and quantum computing, must take into account the interaction of the quantum system with the surrounding environment.

Embedding the Yang-Lee quantum criticality in open quantum systems

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
The Yang-Lee edge singularity is a quintessential nonunitary critical phenomenon characterized by anomalous scaling. However, an imaginary magnetic field involved in this phenomenon makes its physical implementation nontrivial.

Quantum Non-Markovian Environment-to-System Backflows of Information: Nonoperational vs. Operational Approaches

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Quantum memory effects can be qualitatively understood as a consequence of an environment-to-system backflow of information. Here, we analyze and compare how this concept is interpreted and implemented in different approaches to quantum non-Markovianity.

Speed limit for open quantum systems

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
We study the quantum speed limit for open quantum systems described by the Lindblad master equation. The obtained inequality shows a trade-off relation between the operation time and the physical quantities such as the energy fluctuation and the entropy ...

Quantum Darwinism in a Composite System: Objectivity versus Classicality

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
We investigate the implications of quantum Darwinism in a composite quantum system with interacting constituents exhibiting a decoherence-free subspace. We consider a two-qubit system coupled to an N-qubit environment via a dephasing interaction.
