Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Experimental Investigation of R1234ze(E)/R32 Replacing R410A in Heat Pump System

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2017
Nowadays, more and more attention is being paid to the new low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant R1234ze(E). Mixing this refrigerant with R32 has been studied in recent years.

Broken Bar Fault Detection in IM Operating Under No-Load Condition

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2016
This paper presents a novel method for broken rotor bar detection in a squirrel-cage induction motor (IM). The proposed method applies a single-phase AC voltage as a test signal on motor terminals, resulting in a stator backward-rotating magnetic field.

Induction Motors Condition Monitoring System with Fault Diagnosis Using a Hybrid Approach

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
This study develops a condition monitoring system, which includes operating condition monitoring (OCM) and fault diagnosis analysis (FDA). The OCM uses a vibration detection approach based on the ISO 10816-1 and NEMA MG-1 international standards, and the

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
