Scheduling with alternative operations

IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1993
The incorporation of alternative operations in a scheduling system increases the utilization rate of resources and reduces the makespan of manufacturing products. A heuristic algorithm is developed for a scheduling problem with and without alternative operations. The effect of alternative operations on the performance of schedules generated are studied

Operating Room Staffing and Scheduling

Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, 2020
Problem definition: We consider two problems faced by an operating room (OR) manager: (1) how many baseline (core) staff to hire for OR suites, and (2) how to schedule surgery requests that arrive one by one. The OR manager has access to historical case count and case length data, and needs to balance the fixed cost of baseline staff and variable cost

Improving operating room schedules

Health Care Management Science, 2013
Operating rooms (ORs) in US hospitals are costly to staff, generate about 70 % of a hospital's revenues, and operate at a staffed-capacity utilization of 60-70 %. Many hospitals allocate blocks of OR time to individual or groups of surgeons as guaranteed allocation, who book surgeries one at a time in their blocks.

Scheduling and parallel operations on the transputer

Microprocessing and Microprogramming, 1989
Abstract Multiprocessor systems offer many advantages over single processor systems, such as fault tolerance, ease of upgrade, higher computation speed, etc. However, to build multiprocessor systems from processors designed for single processor environments is difficult, since it requires special processors and complex software. The transputer family

Scheduling flow shops with operators

International Journal of Production Research, 2018
This paper addresses the problem of assigning a number of operators, less than the number of machines, in a flow shop environment. We study two different problems. The first is the assignment of operators subject to a fixed job sequence; the second is on handling simultaneously the assignment of operators and the scheduling of jobs on the machines.

Operating room efficiency and scheduling

Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 2005
The review focuses on six papers published in 2004 that pertain to operating room (OR) efficiency. When to release OR time was much less important than was having the correct OR allocations in the first place. If OR time must be released, then this decision should be based on the historical scheduled workload.

Operating Room Scheduling by Computer

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1977
The surgical operating room schedule has been produced automatically for more than 2 years in our large teaching hospital. In order to apply computer technology to the complex surgical scheduling problem a special programming approach was devised. We discuss this approach under the headings of Expand, Sort, Order and Assign.

Optimizing Operating Room Scheduling

Anesthesiology Clinics, 2015
This article reviews the management of an operating room (OR) schedule and use of the schedule to add value to an organization. We review the methodology of an OR block schedule, daily OR schedule management, and post anesthesia care unit patient flow.

The Operational Airline Crew Scheduling Problem

Transportation Science, 1998
This paper describes the operational airline crew scheduling problem and represents a first published attempt to solve it. The problem consists of modifying, as necessary, personalized planned monthly assignments of airline crew members during day-to-day operations.
