ABSTRACT Recombinant protein expression in heterologous biological systems is an expanding field in synthetic biology. Photosynthetic organisms have the potential to provide an efficient low‐cost platform for recombinant protein production because they require minimal growth nutrients and are less susceptible to zoonotic and other contaminants ...

Inducible protein expression is a cornerstone of many aspects of industrial and molecular biotechnological processes. 2′‐fucosyl isopropyl‐β‐D‐thiogalactopyranose (2′F‐IPTG) and 2′‐fucosyl isobutyl‐C‐galactoside (2′F‐IBCG) mimics were explored for protein expression studies.

CadC-mediated activation of the cadBA promoter in Escherichia coli [PDF]
The transcriptional activator CadC in Escherichia coli, a member of the ToxR-like proteins, activates transcription of the cadBA operon encoding the lysine decarboxylase CadA and the lysine-cadaverine antiporter CadB. cadBA is induced under conditions of

Ribosomal RNA operon copy number: A trait‐informed framework to close the microbial cultivation gap
The vast majority of microbes remain uncultured, constraining functional validation and limiting microbiome‐based applications. We show that ribosomal RNA operon (rrn) copy number—a stable, phylogenetically conserved genomic trait—is strongly correlated with cultivation outcomes across ecosystems.

CAT‐BLAST: Engineered bacteria for robust targeting and elimination of cancer‐associated fibroblasts
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) construct a protective stromal barrier that promotes tumor growth and resistance to therapy. To dismantle this, we developed CAT‐BLAST, an engineered bacterial platform designed to potently eliminate these cells. We engineered a safe, high‐expression E.

Membrane topology of the ArsB protein, the membrane subunit of an anion-translocating ATPase [PDF]
The ars operon of the conjugative R-factor R773 encodes an oxyanion pump that catalyzes extrusion of arsenicals from cells of Escherichia coli. The oxyanion translocation ATPase is composed of two polypeptides, the catalytic ArsA protein and the ...

The phenazine pyocyanin is a terminal signalling factor in the quorum sensing network of Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]
Certain members of the fluorescent pseudomonads produce and secrete phenazines. These heterocyclic, redox-active compounds are toxic to competing organisms, and the cause of these antibiotic effects has been the focus of intense research efforts.
