River Ice Analyses and Roughness Calculations Using Underwater Drones and Photogrammetric Approach

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
This study presents a methodology for determining hydraulic roughness (Manning's n) of fluvial ice using underwater drone and Structure from Motion (SfM) photogrammetry. The findings show that cost‐efficient equipment can be used to determine Manning's n for river ice, which supports modelling efforts, especially under intense warming in northern areas.

Feasibility of a field‐based submaximal stair ascent test for estimating aerobic capacity and lower‐limb strength in middle‐aged and older adults

open access: yesClinical Physiology and Functional Imaging, Volume 46, Issue 4, July 2026.
Abstract Background Assessing functional capacity is a key aspect of exercise testing and offers important insights into health in adult populations. However, accurate assessment often requires laboratory‐based maximal tests. This pilot study investigated whether a field‐based self‐paced submaximal stair ascent test could feasibly assess aerobic ...

Eläinten rooli suomalaisessa koulutusjärjestelmässä

open access: yesEnnen ja Nyt: Historian Tietosanomat
Artikkeli keskittyy siihen, millaista käsitystä eläimistä koulutus on viime vuosituhannen lopulla ja etenkin 2000-luvulla välittänyt, sekä siihen, miten tämä käsitys on omalta osaltaan edesauttanut ekologisten ongelmien syntyä.

Beyond performance: Emotions before and after semi‐high‐stakes mathematics testing among school‐aged students

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, Volume 96, Issue 2, Page 648-673, June 2026.
Abstract Background Previous research has shown that testing differs significantly from other classroom activities and is associated with heightened negative emotions and lower levels of positive emotions. However, relatively little is known about students' emotions surrounding testing, particularly in higher‐stakes assessment settings. Aims This study

Local species richness of parasitoid wasps (Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae) in Afrotropical forest: Conservation perspectives

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 1, Page 198-210, January 2026.
Using extensive Malaise trapping, we collected a high richness of Pimplinae (86 species, 5892 individuals) in habitat types across a successional gradient. We found higher richness in forest than in nearby farmland, highlighting the importance of tropical forest in conserving parasitoid wasp richness.
