Animal models for Opisthorchis viverrini infection
Parasitology Research, 2008We investigated the utility of various animal models for the study of opisthorchiasis in humans and its common sequel of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Rats, mice, gerbils, and hamsters were infected with Opisthorchis viverrini metacercariae. Worms from the infected animal hosts were recovered from livers and counts made of eggs per gram of feces.

Specific monoclonal antibodies to Opisthorchis viverrini
International Journal for Parasitology, 1991A Balb/c mouse was immunized with a crude soluble antigen of Opisthorchis viverrini adult worms (OVAA) over a period of 7 months. Spleen cells from the immune mouse were fused with Sp2/0 myeloma cells. Among the 264 tissue culture wells containing the fused cells, cells of 96 wells (36%) produced antibodies to the immunizing agent.

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1982Two groups of ten hamsters received a primary challenge of five Opisthorchis viverrini metacercariae intragastrically (Groups I and III) and a third group was left untreated (Group II). 90 days after the primary challenge Groups I and II were given a further 50 metacercariae.
