Enzymatic Remodelling of Tumour Microenvironment Enhances Anti‐CEACAM5 CAR T‐Cell Efficacy Against Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows anti‐CEACAM5 CAR T‐cells are ineffective against colorectal cancer (CRC) because of CEACAM5 sequestration at intercellular junctions and the thick tumour cell glycocalyx. Enzymatic treatments of CRC cell monolayer/tissue section with trypsin or hyaluronidase restore CEACAM5 availability, enhance CAR T‐cell activation, increase ...

Magnetoencephalography for the investigation and diagnosis of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), (or concussion), is the most common type of brain injury. Despite this, it often goes undiagnosed and can cause long term disability—most likely caused by the disruption of axonal connections in the brain.

Multimodal neuroimaging with optically pumped magnetometers: A simultaneous MEG-EEG-fNIRS acquisition system

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2022
Multimodal neuroimaging plays an important role in neuroscience research. Integrated noninvasive neuroimaging modalities, such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), allow neural ...

Assessing the Relative Importance of Imaging and Serum Biomarkers in Capturing Disability, Cognitive Impairment, and Clinical Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using machine‐learning analyses in two independent multiple sclerosis cohorts, spinal cord atrophy and cortical degeneration emerged as key predictors of disability and progression independent of relapses. Deep gray matter damage further improved prediction, while serum biomarkers of brain damage provided complementary information, highlighting the ...

Wireless optically pumped magnetometer MEG

open access: yesNeuroImage
The current magnetoencephalography (MEG) systems, which rely on cables for control and signal transmission, do not fully realize the potential of wearable optically pumped magnetometers (OPM). This study presents a significant advancement in wireless OPM-

Structural Basis of the Membrane Association by the Conserved RocS Membrane‐Targeting Sequence in Streptococcus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chromosome segregation in Streptococcus pneumoniae depends on RocS, a bitopic protein whose membrane‐anchoring mechanisms were unclear. Using NMR and AFM, this study reveals that the widely conserved RocS anchor binds to membranes via a conserved kink‐helix motif which inserts into lipid nanodomains.

A first-in-human application of OPM-MEG for localizing motor activity area: Compared to functional MRI

open access: yesNeuroImage
Background: Accurately localizing brain motor areas is vital for protecting motor function during neurosurgical procedures. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) based on optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) improves the availability of MEG in clinical ...

Test-retest reliability of auditory MMN measured with OPM-MEG

open access: yes
AbstractIn this paper, we report results from an investigation of auditory mismatch responses as measured by magnetoencephalography (MEG) based on optically pumped magnetometers (OPM). Specifically, as part of a quality control study, we examined the reliability and validity of auditory mismatch negativity (MMN) recordings, obtained with a newly ...
