DOTATATE Scan in Meningiomatosis in a Patient With Ophthalmoplegia

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmological Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
DOTATATE (1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane‐1,4,7,10‐tetraacetic acid [DOTA]‐octreotate) is a compound that binds somatostatin receptors seen in tumors such as meningiomas. Here, we present a case of a patient with progressive bilateral ophthalmoplegia due to meningiomatosis involving both cavernous sinuses, which was highlighted by DOTATATE imaging. Some

PANoptosis‐Related Diagnostic Biomarkers in Non‐Neovascular Age‐Related Macular Degeneration: An Integrative Transcriptomic and Experimental Study

open access: yesGenetics Research , Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Age‐related macular degeneration (AMD), particularly its non‐neovascular (dry) form, is a progressive retinal disorder that causes central vision loss and substantial impairment in daily life. Inflammation and immune dysregulation are recognized as core drivers of AMD, yet the contribution of PANoptosis, a form of programmed cell death that integrates ...

Mainstream Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Contemporary Ophthalmology

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 12, December 2025.
This review explores the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in ophthalmology, focusing on four key data types: medical imaging, electronic health records, robotic‐assisted surgery, and genomics. It examines the structural features, use cases, clinical goals, and evaluation metrics of various AI algorithms, while also introducing emerging ...

The rs10191329 Risk Allele Is Associated With Pronounced Retinal Layer Atrophy in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 12, Issue 11, Page 2226-2234, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective To investigate whether the rs10191329 risk allele in the DYSF–ZNF638 locus, which is implicated in central nervous system resilience rather than immune‐mediated pathology, is associated with retinal layer thinning, a biomarker of neuroaxonal damage in relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS). Methods From a prospective observational study,

Proposal of a Simpler Eye‐Level Risk Model Incorporating Reticular Pseudodrusen for the Clinical Prediction of Late Age‐Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, Volume 53, Issue 8, Page 936-945, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The updated simplified AREDS risk model predicts progression to late age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) by person, describing up to nine observations across both eyes and 10 annual risk scores (0–4, with/without reticular pseudodrusen [RPD]).

Identification of Variants in Four Families With Inherited Eye Disorders by Whole Exome Sequencing

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2025.
Our study identified mutations in genes in families associated with different eye disorders. We also explored the effect of a novel variant identified in the ALMS1 gene by using patient‐specific cells. Finally, previously published data was compiled to establish the genotype–phenotype relation.

Naphthalene Metabolites From Long‐Term Environmental Tobacco Smoke Induce the Aging of Retinal Pigment Epithelium

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 9, September 2025.
Cigarette exposure can induce the senescence of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The accumulation of naphthalene metabolites, namely 1,2‐dihydronaphthalene and 1,2‐naphthoquinone, in rats is a key factor in this process. In ARPE‐19 cells, the plasma of rats exposed to cigarette smoke can cause a significant increase in the level of reactive oxygen ...

Semaglutide and non‐arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy: Review and interpretation of reported association

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 103, Issue 6, Page 615-621, September 2025.
Abstract This review covers a seminal study of the relation between exposure to the glucagon‐like peptide 1 (GLP‐1) agonist semaglutide and incident non‐arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION) in a neuro‐ophthalmology clinic setting, subsequent studies in unselected populations, a meta‐analysis of clinical trials and pathophysiology ...
