Optical Frequency Hopping Techniques for Secure Fiber-Optic networks
2021 12th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems & Applications (IISA), 2021Optical networks’ physical layer is vulnerable to a variety of attacks, such as jamming, eavesdropping, and, finally, interception. Optical technology may have focused mainly on the more bandwidth race, but the issue of securing the physical layer needs the proper attention.

An optical frequency-hopping scheme based on phase modulator-embedded optical loop mirror
Optics Communications, 2019Abstract An optical frequency-hopping scheme using phase modulator-embedded optical loop mirror (PME-OLM) is proposed, analyzed and demonstrated to achieve long distance secure communications. In the proposed system, the data from every user are separated into small data segments in time domain and carried by different wavelength carriers instead of ...

Fast frequency hopping codes applied to SAC optical CDMA network
Optical Fiber Technology, 2015Abstract This study designed a fast frequency hopping (FFH) code family suitable for application in spectral-amplitude-coding (SAC) optical code-division multiple-access (CDMA) networks. The FFH code family can effectively suppress the effects of multiuser interference and had its origin in the frequency hopping code family.

Carrier frequency hopping for optical pulse transmission in dispersion-managed fiber systems
Abstract We present a fiber transmission system combining dispersion management with periodical hopping of channel frequencies by means of wavelength converters. We show that the signal distortion arising from chirp reversal may be substantially suppressed for optimized dispersion-managed links.

Optical frequency-hop multiple access communications system
ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002We propose fast optical frequency-hop code division multiple access (FH-CDMA) for high bandwidth local area networks. Encoding and decoding are achieved by tunable fiber Bragg gratings. Frequency hopping offers many advantages compared to the previously proposed optical CDMA multiple access techniques.
