Design and Applications of Liquid Crystal Biophotonic Sensors for Ion Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2022
Liquid crystals (LCs) are nanophotonic materials which can interact with light in the molecular scale. While the LCs are widely used in various displays, last decade has witnessed emerging applications of the LCs for nondisplays.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Optical Imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)We describe the fundamental concept of optical coherence tomography (OCT) and discuss the two main working principles time domain OCT and frequency domain OCT. Then, we review extended functionalities including spectrally and polarization-resolved OCT as well as Doppler-OCT and show concepts for contrast enhancement ...

Motionless volumetric photoacoustic microscopy with spatially invariant resolution

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Photoacoustic microscopy allows for label-free 3D in vivo imaging by detecting the acoustic response of a photoexcited material. Here, Yang et. al use a digital-micromirror-device based structured illumination scheme to both improve resolution and ...

A Phase-Intensity Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor for Avian Influenza A (H5N1) Detection

open access: yesSensors, 2017
In this paper, we present a phase-intensity surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor and demonstrate its use for avian influenza A (H5N1) antibody biomarker detection.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Lucky imaging and aperture synthesis with low-redundancy apertures

open access: yes, 2009
Lucky imaging, used with some success in astronomical and even horizontal-path imaging, relies on fleeting conditions of the atmosphere that allow momentary improvements in image quality, at least in portions of an image.

Full-field optical coherence tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
To eliminate mechanical scanning in the probe head of an endoscopic OCT system, we propose the use of an imaging fibre bundle for probe beam delivery.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Compressed Optical Imaging

open access: yes, 2013
We address the resolution of inverse problems where visual data must be recovered from incomplete information optically acquired in the spatial domain. The optical acquisition models that are involved share a common mathematical structure consisting of a linear operator followed by optional pointwise nonlinearities.
