Mode-locked Bloch oscillations in a ring cavity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a new technique for stabilizing and monitoring Bloch oscillations of ultracold atoms in an optical lattice under the action of a constant external force.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Spin–orbit modulated optical properties in Lieb-to-kagome lattices

open access: yesResults in Physics
We investigate the optical conductivity of two-dimensional flat-band systems undergoing a transition from Lieb to kagome lattice geometries. Using a generalized tight-binding Hamiltonian with intrinsic spin–orbit coupling (ISOC), we compute both the real

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Cancellation of collisional frequency shifts in optical lattice clocks with Rabi spectroscopy

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
We analyze both the s- and p -wave collision induced frequency shifts and propose an over- π pulse scheme to cancel the shifts in optical lattice clocks interrogated by a Rabi pulse.

Optical lattices with micromechanical mirrors [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2010
We investigate a setup where a cloud of atoms is trapped in an optical lattice potential of a standing wave laser field which is created by retro-reflection on a micro-membrane. The membrane vibrations itself realize a quantum mechanical degree of freedom.

State engineering of Bose-Einstein condensate in the optical lattice by a periodic sublattice of dissipative sites

open access: yes, 2012
We introduce the notion of dissipative periodic lattice as an optical lattice with periodically distributed dissipative sites and argue that it allows to engineer unconventional Bose-Einstein superfluids with the complex-valued order parameter.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Strongly coupled cold atoms in bilayer dense lattices

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We theoretically investigate the optical response of many cold atoms within a pair of identical planar lattices mostly in a dense regime using microscopic electrodynamics numerical simulations.

Quantum phases in a resonantly-interacting Bose-Fermi mixture

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a resonantly-interacting Bose-Fermi mixture of $^{40}$K and $^{87}$Rb atoms in an optical lattice. We show that by using a red-detuned optical lattice the mixture can be accurately described by a generalized Hubbard model for $^{40}$K and ...
