Observation of light localization in modulated Bessel optical lattices

open access: yes, 2015
We generate higher-order azimuthally modulated Bessel optical lattices in photorefractive crystals by employing a phase-imprinting technique. We report on the experimental observation of self-trapping and nonlinear localization of light in such ...

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Strongly coupled cold atoms in bilayer dense lattices

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We theoretically investigate the optical response of many cold atoms within a pair of identical planar lattices mostly in a dense regime using microscopic electrodynamics numerical simulations.

Strongly correlated ultracold bosons in an optical lattice

open access: yes, 2012
In this thesis, we have investigated strongly correlated bosonic gases in an optical lattice, mostly based on a bosonic version of dynamical mean field theory and its real-space extension. Emphasis is put on possible novel quantum phenomena of these many-

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Bloch Oscillations In Optical Dissipative Lattices

open access: yes, 2004
We show that Bloch oscillations are possible in dissipative optical waveguide lattices with a linearly varying propagation constant. These oscillations occur in spite of the fact that the Bloch wave packet experiences coupling gain and (or) loss ...

Artificial Graphene and Related Photonic Lattices Generated With a Simple Method

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
We fabricate honeycomb and related photonic lattices in a nonlinear crystal with a simple method that is based on the optical Fourier transformation through an amplitude mask (six-hole aperture) superimposed with a phase mask (three tilted glass plates).

Beam dynamics in optical mesh lattices

open access: yes, 2013
We study propagation dynamics in a new class of optical lattices which are bi-periodic and discrete in both coordinates. These mesh structures exhibit peculiar linear and nonlinear properties which are unattainable in traditional optical lattices.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.
