Polarisation control for optical nanofibres by imaging through a single lens [PDF]

open access: yesPolarisation control for optical nanofibres by imaging through a single lens, 2019
We present a simple method for controlling the polarisation state of light at the waist of a single-mode optical nanofibre. The method consists of complete polarisation compensation based on imaging scattered light from inherent inhomogeneities both on the fibre surface and in the glass material itself.

Optical transport of sub-micron lipid vesicles along an optical nanofibre

open access: yes, 2020
Enhanced manipulation and analysis of bio-particles using light confined in nano-scale dielectric structures has proceeded apace in the last several years. Small mode volumes, along with the lack of a need for bulky optical elements give advantages in sensitivity and scalability relative to conventional optical manipulation.

Measurements on release–recapture of cold 85Rb atoms using an optical nanofibre in a magneto-optical trap [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Communications, 2013
Abstract We have performed release–recapture temperature measurements of laser-cooled 85Rb atoms using an optical nanofibre (ONF) in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). The effects of changing the cooling laser light-shift parameter on the temperature of the cold atoms and spring constant of the trap are studied.

Interaction of two Rydberg atoms in the vicinity of an optical nanofibre [PDF]

open access: yesInteraction of two Rydberg atoms in the vicinity of an optical nanofibre
We consider two rubidium atoms, prepared in the same S or P Rydberg states, near an optical nanofibre, and we determine their van der Waals interaction potential as a function of their separation along the nanofibre axis, their distance to the nanofibre axis, and their relative azimuthal angle. We compare results obtained through direct diagonalisation

Preparation of PLA based biodegradable nanofibre films and their characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
9-14Nanofibres have been obtained from sugarcane bagasse through different chemical treatments and mechanical grinding process. These nanofibres are then used for the preparation of their PLA-based biodegradable films by the solvent casing method using ...

Characterisation and spectroscopy of laser-cooled atoms with an optical nanofibre

open access: yes, 2013
In this thesis, a magneto-optical trap setup is used to laser cool and confine a cloud of 85Rb. The cloud typically contains 108 atoms in a 1 mm3 volume at a temperature in the region of the Doppler Limit (146 _K for 85Rb). To study the cold cloud, a subwavelength optical fibre - a nanofibre, or ONF - is positioned inside the cloud. The ONF can be used

Hybrid device of hexagonal boron nitride nanoflakes with defect centres and a nano-fibre Bragg cavity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Solid-state quantum emitters coupled with a single mode fibre are of interest for photonic and quantum applications. In this context, nanofibre Bragg cavities (NFBCs), which are microcavities fabricated in an optical nanofibre, are promising devices ...

Rubidium atom spectral lineshapes in high intensity electric fields near an optical nanofibre

open access: yes, 2022
The integration of cold atomic systems with optical nanofibres is an increasingly important experimental platform. Here, we report on the spectra observed during a strongly driven, single-frequency, two-photon excitation of cold rubidium atoms near an ...
