Efficiency limits of laser power converters for optical power transfer applications
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2013We have developed III-V-based high-efficiency laser power converters (LPCs), optimized specifically for converting monochromatic laser radiation at the eye-safe wavelength of 1.55 m into electrical power. The applications of these photovoltaic cells include high-efficiency space-based and terrestrial laser power transfer and subsequent conversion to ...

Performance Study of GaAs Photovoltaic Power Converter in Optically Powered Systems
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Optically powered system is a revolutionary new power delivery system, in which optical power is delivered over fiber to photovoltaic power converter, where optical power is transformed into electrical power. Therefore the system is inherently immune to RF, EMI, high voltage and lighting effects.

Photovoltaic laser power converters for wireless optical power supply of sensor systems
2016 IEEE International Conference on Wireless for Space and Extreme Environments (WiSEE), 2016Optical power transmission (also called power-by-light) is an elegant solution to power wireless sensor nodes. At the sensor, optical power in form of monochromatic laser light is converted to electricity by photovoltaic laser power converters. These photovoltaic cells are optimized for the monochromatic wavelength of the light — opposed to solar cells,

Fiber-Optic Angle Converter with Adaptive Error Correction of Non-Uniform Division of Optical Power
Measurement Techniques, 2015We analyze instrument error caused by non-uniform input radiation into measuring channels of fiber-optic communication lines. We study the design of a converter, which implements an adaptive method of correction. The results of the experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of the developed hardware and software are presented.

We analyzed the influence of the probe signal power on the wavelength conversion in an interferometric all optical wavelength converter using semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). The carrier density variation inside an SOA due to longitudinal signal amplification and nonradiative recombination is investigated and the following variation of ...

Monolithic GaAlAs/GaAs infrared-to-visible wavelength converter with optical power amplification
IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1981A monolithic wavelength converter has been constructed in the GaAlAs alloy system which comprises a wide gap emitter phototransistor and a double heterojunction (DH) light emitting diode (LED) in a bifacial configuration. The liquid phase epitaxy (LPE)-grown structure is capable of efficiently converting IR light with λ < 870 nm into the red spectral ...

Low input power wavelength converter using a gain-clamped semiconductor optical amplifier
The 15th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2003A laser wavelength converter using a gain clamped (GC) SOA was proposed for low input power characteristic. Wavelength conversion from communication wavelengths of 1530 to 1560 nm to fixed wavelength of 1510.8 nm was experimentally demonstrated for CW and data at 2.5 Gb/s input signals.
