Optical quantum networks can connect distant quantum processors to enable secure quantum communication and distributed quantum computing. Superconducting qubits are a leading technology for quantum information processing but cannot couple to long ...

Design of All-Optical Subtractors Utilized with Plasmonic Ring Resonators for Optical Computing
In this paper, a novel plasmonic all-optical half-subtractor and full-subtractor are designed for optical computing. The structure of plasmonic subtractors consists of a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) waveguide and rectangular ring resonators covered by a ...

Resonant Optical Antennas [PDF]
We have fabricated nanometer-scale gold dipole antennas designed to be resonant at optical frequencies. On resonance, strong field enhancement in the antenna feed gap leads to white-light supercontinuum generation. The antenna length at resonance is considerably shorter than one-half the wavelength of the incident light.

Resonators with tailored optical path by cascaded-mode conversions
Resonators are key components in optics. In this work, the authors introduce a class of optical resonators with distinctly different properties from conventional resonators, allowing fundamental design trade-offs to be circumvented.

Optical microbubble resonator [PDF]
We develop a method for fabricating very small silica microbubbles having a micrometer-order wall thickness and demonstrate the first optical microbubble resonator. Our method is based on blowing a microbubble using stable radiative CO(2) laser heating rather than unstable convective heating in a flame or furnace.

High-Q suspended optical resonators in 3C silicon carbide obtained by thermal annealing.
We fabricate suspended single-mode optical waveguides and ring resonators in 3C silicon carbide (SiC) that operate at telecommunication wavelength, and leverage post-fabrication thermal annealing to minimize optical propagation losses.

First-order perturbation theory for changes in the surrounding of open optical resonators. [PDF]
The single-mode approximation of resonant state expansion has proven to give accurate first-order approximations of resonance shifts and linewidth changes when modifying the material properties inside open optical resonators.

Optical Whispering-Gallery-Mode Microbubble Sensors
Whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microbubble resonators are ideal optical sensors due to their high quality factor, small mode volume, high optical energy density, and geometry/design/structure (i.e., hollow microfluidic channels).

Optical Microdiscus Resonators [PDF]
We present a new “soften-and-squash” method for turning microspheres into high quality, stand-alone microdiscus resonators. Due to the annealing involved in the fabrication process, their measured Q factors are one order of magnitude better than the starting microspheres.
