Orbital angular momentum: origins, behavior and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
As they travel through space, some light beams rotate. Such light beams have angular momentum. There are two particularly important ways in which a light beam can rotate: if every polarization vector rotates, the light has spin; if the phase structure ...

Advances on Solid-State Vortex Laser

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
Vortex beams (VBs) are structured beams with helical wavefronts carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) and they have been widely used in lots of domains, such as optical data-transmission, optical tweezer, quantum entanglement, and super-resolution ...

Quantum Fluctuations of a Vortex in an Optical Lattice [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
Using a variational ansatz for the wave function of the Bose-Einstein condensate, we develop a quantum theory of vortices and quadrupole modes in a one-dimensional optical lattice. We study the coupling between the quadrupole modes and Kelvin modes, which turns out to be formally analogous to the theory of parametric processes in quantum optics.

Near and mid-infrared optical vortex parametric oscillator based on KTA

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
We investigated high energy, near and mid-infrared optical vortex lasers formed by a 1 μm optical vortex-pumped KTiOAsO4 (KTA) optical parametric oscillator. The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of the pump beam can be selectively transferred to the signal

Optical vortices and vortex solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Optical vortices are phase singularities nested in electromagnetic waves that constitute a fascinating source of phenomena in the physics of light and display deep similarities to their close relatives, quantized vortices in superfluids and Bose-Einstein condensates.

Review on vortex beams with low spatial coherence

open access: yesAdvances in Physics: X, 2019
Vortex beams with helical phase, carrying phase singularity and orbital angular momentum, have attract great attention in the past decades due to their wide applications in optical communications, optical manipulation, super-resolution imaging and so on.

Effect of Twisting Phases on the Polarization Dynamics of a Vector Optical Field

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
The effect of twisting phases on the polarization dynamics of a vector vortex beam with a spatially variant state of polarization (SoP) is investigated theoretically and experimentally.

Interferometry with Vortices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, 2012
Interference of optical beams with optical vortices is often encountered in singular optics. Since interferometry makes the phase observable by intensity measurement, it brings out a host of applications and helps to understand the optical vortex.
