Applied Optics, 1974A method for designing optical-waveguide band-rejection filters is presented that allows side-lobe levels to be reduced by several orders of magnitude while the rolloff rate of the response characteristics is not appreciably degraded. The method is based upon the control of the shape of the perturbation-amplitude envelope.

Design of SiOx slab optical waveguides
SPIE Proceedings, 2015An analysis of the dispersion relation of SiOx submicron optical waveguides in the visible and IR spectral range is presented. Here is considered that the refractive index (n) of SiOx can be tuned in the range from n=1.457-2 for 2>x>1, and a film thickness from 50nm to 1000nm.

Versatile waveguide design for optical amplification
Optical Fiber Communication Conference and International Conference on Quantum Information, 2001Optical amplification in novel rare-earth-doped waveguides is demonstrated. Design and measurements of an Erbium/Ytterbium co-doped glass waveguide amplifier are presented. The benefits of the design as applied to low-cost amplification are discussed.

Design and simulation of optical waveguide for electro-optic modulator

Waveguide optical isolator: a new design
Applied Optics, 1991A new design of a thin film waveguide optical isolator is described. It is composed of a nonreciprocal mode converter by the Faraday effect, a reciprocal mode converter by the Cotton-Mouton effect, an integrated mirror, and TE-mode selectors. Its mode transfer matrices are derived.

Optimization of waveguide coupling lenses with optical design software
Applied Optics, 1996We show that the coupling efficiency of an optical system to a waveguide can be related to an apodized and normalized point spread function. Adapting the problem to the use of optical design software, we analyze and optimize systems that contain a fair amount of aberration.
