Grating design for interlayer optical interconnection of in-plane waveguides

Applied Optics, 2016
Interlayer grating-to-grating optical interconnect coupling efficiency is simulated and optimized using rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) for the case of binary rectangular-groove gratings. The "equivalent index slab (EIS)" concept is proposed to alleviate the numerical sensitivity problem inherent in the RCWA-leaky-wave approach, making the method

Design and Modeling of Optical Waveguide Combiners

2020
Designing and modeling a waveguide combiner is very different from designing and modeling a free-space optical combiner, as discussed in Chapters 9, 11, and 12. As conventional ray tracing in standard optical CAD tools such as ZemaxTM, CodeVTM, FredTM, or TraceProTM is sufficient to design effective free-space and even TIR prism combiners, a hybrid ray-

Design of evanescent semiconductor waveguide optical isolators

2009 9th International Conference on Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices, 2009
We have designed evanescent waveguide semiconductor optical isolators to realize 8.7dB/mm-isolation and lower forward transparent current. They are composed of an upper InGaAsP waveguide layer with Fe layer at their sidewall upon the active layer.

Design of Doubly Coupled Resonator Optical Waveguides

Advanced Photonics Congress, 2012
We propose doubly-coupled resonator optical waveguides (D-CROWs). D-CROWs are composed of cascaded ring resonators based on 1-D photonic crystals. We show that D-CROWs realize small group velocity compared with conventional 1-D photonic crystals based CROWs.

Fundamentals and Design Guides for Optical Waveguides

2013
Next-generation high-end data processing systems such as Internet switches or servers approach aggregate bandwidth in excess of 1 Tb/s. The task of providing hundreds of individual links as speeds in excess of 10 Gb/s over the link distances becomes increasingly difficult for conventional copper-based interconnect technology.

Design and Fabrication of Electro-Optic Polymer Waveguides

Organic Thin Films for Photonic Applications, 1993
Poled functionalized electro-optic polymers provide an interesting alternative to bulk materials such as lithium niobate for a range of application encompassing electro-optic modulators, switches, or directional couplers. Their ability to be spin-coated on semiconductor substrates and their compatibility with such processing techniques as ...

The fast quasiadiabatic approach to optical waveguide design

Integrated Optics: Design, Devices, Systems, and Applications V, 2019
Optical waveguide devices based on adiabatic mode evolution have large bandwidth and fabrication tolerances, but they have longer device lengths in general. We define a suitable adiabaticity parameter for optical waveguides and derive the formulae for engineering the adiabaticity along the waveguide.

Design of optical biosensor using polymeric waveguide

1999 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference, 2003
We present a detailed design of an optical biosensor using polymeric waveguides intended for blood glucose concentration measurements. Our proposed device is based on a vertical two-waveguide ARROW structure, simplifying fabrication and avoiding post tuning of sensor parameters.

Analysis and design of optical waveguide components with metallization

International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (Cat. No. 99EX350), 2003
Planar optical waveguide components with metallization are analyzed with a mode-matching method that takes into account surface plasmons on the metallization, the plasmon character of TM-modes as well as to any significant extend also radiating modes.

Method of Designing a Corrugated Optical Waveguide Filter

Optical Review, 1996
The method of designing a corrugated optical waveguide filter is proposed to yield an arbitrary spectral profile of the reflection coefficient. It gives the functional dependence of the corrugation depth on distance along the wave propagation direction.
