Optimal futility stopping boundaries for binary endpoints
Background Group sequential designs incorporating the option to stop for futility at the time point of an interim analysis can save time and resources.

Energy-optimal steering of transitions through a fractal basin boundary. [PDF]
We study fluctuational transitions in a discrete dy- namical system having two co-existing attractors in phase space, separated by a fractal basin boundary. It is shown that transitions occur via a unique ac- cessible point on the boundary.

A History of Boundaries: Redefining the Bordering Process [PDF]
Societies throughout time and space have shaped their interactions with each other and their environments by forming boundaries. The function of boundaries, constructed through the process of bordering shape whether boundaries exhibit monologic or ...

Conventional quenching and tempering were employed to achieve the optimal strength and toughness of low-carbon low-alloy steel. The fracture behavior (crack initiation and propagation) of the steel in the impact process was also analyzed.

Boundary optimization for rough sets [PDF]
Let $n > m\ge 2$ be integers and let $\mathcal{A}=\{A_1,\dots,A_m\}$ be a partition of $[n]=\{1,\dots,n\}$. For $X \subseteq [n]$, its $\mathcal{A}$-boundary region $\mathcal{A}(X)$ is defined to be the union of those blocks $A_i$ of $\mathcal{A}$ for which $A_i\cap X\neq \emptyset$ and $A_i\cap ([n] \setminus X)\neq \emptyset$.

Ramified Optimal Transportation with Payoff on the Boundary
This paper studies a variant of ramified/branched optimal transportation problems. Given the distributions of production capacities and market sizes, a firm looks for an allocation of productions over factories, a distribution of sales across markets, and a transport path that delivers the product to maximize its profit.

Fractal variational principle for an optimal control problem
The optimal control of a system governed by an elliptic equation has been widely applied in engineering, and it requires twice differentiability. Furthermore, the optimal control cannot effectively deal with unsmooth boundaries.

Background In clinical trials with fixed study designs, statistical inference is only made when the trial is completed. In contrast, group sequential designs allow an early stopping of the trial at interim, either for efficacy when the treatment effect ...

Optimal Power Investment and Pandemics: A Micro-Economic Analysis
This paper derives the optimal investment policy of an electricity producer during a pandemic. We consider three problems: (1) investing in a gas-fired plant, (2) investing in a wind plant, and (3) investing in the best of a gas plant and a wind plant ...
