On boundary stimulation and optimal boundary control of the bidomain equations [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences, 2013
The bidomain equations with Neumann boundary stimulation and optimal control of these stimuli are investigated. First an analytical framework for boundary control is provided. Then a parallel finite element based algorithm is devised and its efficiency is demonstrated not only for the direct problem but also for the optimal control problem.

Estimation of Single-Diode Photovoltaic Model Using the Differential Evolution Algorithm with Adaptive Boundaries

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
This study proposes a calculation methodology that determines the optimal boundary parameters of the single-diode photovoltaic model. It allows the calculation of the single-diode photovoltaic model when no reference parameter boundaries are available ...

Boundary Learning by Optimization with Topological Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes2010 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2010
Recent studies have shown that machine learning can improve the accuracy of detecting object boundaries in images. In the standard approach, a boundary detector is trained by minimizing its pixel-level disagreement with human boundary tracings. This naive metric is problematic because it is overly sensitive to boundary locations. This problem is solved

Callable Russian Options and Their Optimal Boundaries [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics and Decision Sciences, 2009
We deal with the pricing of callable Russian options. A callable Russian option is a contract in which both of the seller and the buyer have the rights to cancel and to exercise at any time, respectively. The pricing of such an option can be formulated as an optimal stopping problem between the seller and the buyer, and is analyzed as Dynkin game.

Boundary conditions optimal control [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society. Series B. Applied Mathematics, 1989
AbstractA simple rigorous approach is given to finding boundary conditions for the adjoint differential equation in an optimal control problem. The boundary conditions for a time-optimal problem are calculated from the simpler conditions for a fixed-time problem.

Boundary Optimizing Network (BON)

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
Despite all the success that deep neural networks have seen in classifying certain datasets, the challenge of finding optimal solutions that generalize still remains. In this paper, we propose the Boundary Optimizing Network (BON), a new approach to generalization for deep neural networks when used for supervised learning.

Boundary detection by constrained optimization

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1990
A statistical framework is used for finding boundaries and for partitioning scenes into homogeneous regions. The model is a joint probability distribution for the array of pixel gray levels and an array of labels. In boundary finding, the labels are binary, zero, or one, representing the absence or presence of boundary elements.

The American straddle close to expiry

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2006
We address the pricing of American straddle options. We use a technique due to Kim (1990) to derive an expression involving integrals for the price of such an option close to expiry.

Asymptotically Optimal Multistage Hypothesis Tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This thesis investigates variable stage size multistage hypothesis testing in three different contexts, each building on the previous. We first consider the problem of sampling a random process in stages until it crosses a predetermined boundary at ...

Determination of the Optimal Stratum Boundaries in the Monthly Retail Trade Survey in the Croatian Bureau of Statistics [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Română de Statistică, 2017
This paper aims to compare the current sample design of the Monthly Retail Trade Survey in the SAS environment and the sample design with generalized Lavallee-Hidiroglou method of strata construction in the R environment.
