Guess & Check Codes for Deletions and Synchronization

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the problem of constructing codes that can correct $\delta$ deletions occurring in an arbitrary binary string of length $n$ bits. Varshamov-Tenengolts (VT) codes can correct all possible single deletions $(\delta=1)$ with an asymptotically ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Local Repair Degree Analysis of Low Dimensional Optimal Linear Code in 5-ary Domain [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji gongcheng, 2019
The local repair code is applied in distributed storage system. In this code, errors in any bit of code word can be repaired by reading other bits of the code word.According to this characteristic, the research is carried out around the three-dimensional ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Optimal quaternary Hermitian self-orthogonal $ [n, 5] $ codes of $ n \geq 492 $

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics
Self-orthogonal (SO) codes, including Hermitian self-orthogonal (HSO) codes, form an important class of linear codes, and such codes have close connections to other mathematical structures such as block designs, lattices, and sphere packings, which can ...

Weight Distribution of Periodic Errors and Optimal/Anti-Optimal Linear Codes

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2014
The paper discusses weight distribution of periodic errors and then the optimal case on bounds of parity check digits for (n=n1+n2, k) linear codes over GF(q) that corrects all periodic errors of order r in the first block of length n1 and all periodic ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A Characterization of Optimal Prefix Codes

open access: yesEntropy
A property of prefix codes called strong monotonicity is introduced, and it is proven that for a given source, a prefix code is optimal if and only if it is complete and strongly monotone.
