Optimal PMU placement for voltage control
2016 IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm), 2016This paper deals with the optimal phasor measurement unit (PMU) placement problem. In large power system, it is costly to place too many PMUs to achieve real time global observability. In fact, system state can be well estimated by optimally placed limited PMUs' synchronous measurements.

Optimal PMU placement with binary PSO
2012 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2012A growing number of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) are being installed throughout the power grid. Among other objectives, PMUs can be used in state estimation. Due to the high purchase price of a PMU and its high installation cost, a minimum number of PMUs is desired to make a given power network fully observable.

Optimal PMU Placement by improved particle swarm optimization
2013 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies-Asia (ISGT Asia), 2013This paper presents an improved method of binary particle swarm optimization (IBPSO) technique for optimal phasor measurement unit (PMU) placement in a power network for complete system observability. Various effective improvements have been proposed to enhance the efficiency and convergence rate of conventional particle swarm optimization method.

Multi-objective biogeography based optimization for optimal PMU placement
Applied Soft Computing, 2012The paper proposes a multi-objective biogeography based optimization (MO-BBO) algorithm to design optimal placement of phasor measurement units (PMU) which makes the power system network completely observable. The simultaneous optimization of the two conflicting objectives such as minimization of the number of PMUs and maximization of measurement ...

Optimal Placement of PMU: A Brief Review
2020For monitoring and controlling the large modern power system, a measuring device such as phasor measurement unit (PMU) provides an important role. APMU provides time-synchronized voltage and current phasor values relevant buses where these PMUs are placed.

A Fault-Tolerance Based Approach to Optimal PMU Placement
IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, 2019Phasor measurement units (PMUs) have offered significant advancements in power system operation and control. Despite these advantages, the industry has been slow in adopting PMU technology. This slow adoption is partially due to the high cost of installing PMUs, which motivates the optimal PMU placement (OPP) problem.

Optimal PMU placement with local redundancy of conventional measurements
2013 IEEE Computational Intelligence Applications in Smart Grid (CIASG), 2013This paper talks about optimal PMU placement problem with consideration of conventional measurements from the angle of robustness of state estimation (SE). Using the Binary Linear Integer Programming method, local redundancy of the existing measurements is considered in the PMU placement strategy.

Application of Autonomous Group Particle Swarm Optimization for Optimal PMUs Placement
2020 17th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD), 2020The optimal location of phase measurement units (PMUs) indicates the strategic placement of PM Us to obtain full observability of the power systems with a reduced number of PMUs. It is necessary to have a strategic placement due to the economic or technical limitations that hinder the placement of PMU s in each bus. A modified version of particle swarm

Optimal placement of PMUs using differential evolution
2013 International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Signal Processing (ISSP), 2013In the present paper differential evolution methodology has been proposed to place minimum number of phasor measurement units (PMUs) at strategic locations of the power system such that the system is completely observable. Concept of integer programming formulation has been utilized for ensuring the observability of the system configuration and to ...
