Optimal PMU Placements Considering System Change

2021
In this paper, a new method for optimal phasor measurement unit (PMU) placements is proposed when considering system change. In the method, PMU, zero injection buses (ZIBs) and flow measurements are all considered. When the system changes, there are unobservable buses and new PMUs are needed to guarantee the observability of the system.

Optimal PMU placement for power system restoration

2015 Clemson University Power Systems Conference (PSC), 2015
PMU placement is important to achieve full system observability. Traditional PMU placement algorithms only work for systems in normal condition. During power system restoration, system topology and condition change in each step. Synchrophsors can help to improve the reliability and efficiency of restoration strategy. However, the original PMU placement

Optimal Pmu Placement In Bali 150Kv Network

2018 International Conference on Smart Green Technology in Electrical and Information Systems (ICSGTEIS), 2018
The complexity of the 150 KV Bali power system continues to grow, the development of electricity in Java and Bali averages 7.2% per year. A new model in real time management of electric power is needed. The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) provides synchronous voltage and current measurements with speeds of up to 60 samples per second.

Optimal placement of PMUs with limited number of channels

Electric Power Systems Research, 2012
Abstract This paper proposes an approach for optimal placement of phasor measurement units (PMUs). It takes into account the availability of PMU measuring channels, and possible system contingencies like single measurement or branch outage. In order to solve the optimization problem, cellular genetic algorithm is applied.

Optimal PMU placement for state estimation robustness

IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, Europe, 2014
Given a sufficient number of properly placed synchronized voltage and current phasor measurements, an L1 estimator (also known as the Least Absolute Value or LAV estimator) can be shown to be robust against gross measurement errors. This paper is concerned about the placement of phasor measurement units (PMU) in order to establish a desired level of ...

Optimal PMU placement: A comprehensive literature review

2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2011
This review outlines the benefits that Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) integration has on the power network. It reviews past optimal placement techniques covering meta-heuristic and deterministic algorithms. Three best performing algorithms are chosen in terms of minimum required number of PMUs for full system observability.

Comparison of different methods for optimal placement of PMUs

2009 IEEE Bucharest PowerTech, 2009
The paper compares three different methods for optimal placement of PMUs. The objective of the placement methods is to provide the maximum observability information of the electromechanical modes of interest. The first method is based on the observability factor analysis, the second on the sequential orthogonalization algorithm and the third combines ...

Optimal placement of PMUs with limited number of channels

2011 North American Power Symposium, 2011
The Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) will enable the state estimation of a power distribution network provided the network is observable. So far in solving the Optimal PMU Placement (OPP) problem, it was assumed that the PMUs have sufficient number of channels such that a PMU placement on any node would make all the neighboring nodes observable.
