Optimal voltage and reactive power control in power distribution system

Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Smart Digital Environment, 2018
The voltage and reactive power control management are the challenging issues of power distribution systems. Since last few years, the installation of renewable or non renewable energy resources (such as wind turbines generator, biomass, solar photovoltaic, fuel cells ...) in power distribution systems is important.

Network Partition for Distributed Reactive Power Optimization in Power Systems

2008 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, 2008
Reactive power optimization is an important measure to improve the secure and economic performance of power systems. To reduce the dimension of solution space and solve the time-consuming problem more effectively, a network partition method for distributed reactive power optimization is introduced to divide a large-scale power system into several small-

Optimal Reactive Power Optimization by Ant Colony Search Algorithm

2009 Fifth International Conference on Natural Computation, 2009
The paper presents an Ant Colony Search Algorithm(ACSA) for Optimal Reactive Power Optimization and voltage control of power systems. ACSA is a new co-operative agents’ approach, which is inspired by the observation of the behavior of real ant colonies on the topic of ant trial formation and foraging methods.

Reactive Power Optimization in AC Power Systems

2017
Reactive Power is one of the most important features in power networks so that its appropriate production and distribution among consumers can affect performance, efficiency, and reliability of the power networks positively. Creating competitive mechanism via establishing a market to present different services and changing the current rules necessitate

Fuzzy optimal reactive power control

Electric Power Systems Research, 1994
Abstract Optimal reactive power control has been an active research area during the last decade. Where precise data are available, a specific objective with clear-cut constraints was the primary requirement. The sensitivity of a feasible solution in the constraint domain has been reported many times.

Artificial neural network for reactive power optimization

Neurocomputing, 1998
Abstract This paper presents an artificial neural network-based approach (ANN) for reactive power (VAR) optimization of interconnected power systems. The reactive power resources are scheduled to minimize the total transmission losses of the network.

Dynamic optimal reactive power flow

Proceedings of the 1998 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36207), 1998
An efficient method for minimization of energy loss over time is presented. The proposed method uses different loading conditions during a given future time interval instead of one single snapshot of the network. The method finds the optimal conditions during the given interval. The given interval is divided into several shorter periods.

Optimizing generator reactive power resources

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1999
A method is described for selecting generator step-up and auxiliary transformer tap positions to provide the desired reactive power requirements in a coal burning power plant. It is shown how a generator could be made to absorb reactive power, when previously unable to do so, by the adjustment of tap positions on the generator step-up and auxiliary ...

Optimal reactive compensation in power systems

Computers & Electrical Engineering, 1982
Abstract This article describes a method for planning the type, location and minimum amount of installed reactive capacity necessary for maintaining an acceptable voltage profile in a power system during credible contingencies. The problem is formulated as the minimisation of the cost function representing the total cost of the reactive compensation ...

A new reactive power optimization algorithm

2003 IEEE Bologna Power Tech Conference Proceedings,, 2004
This paper presents an algorithm for optimizing reactive power using particle swarm algorithm. A new implementation for the particle swarm algorithm has been applied. The objective function of the proposed algorithm is to minimize the system active power loss.
