A normative inference approach for optimal sample sizes in decisions from experience

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Decisions from experience (DFE) refers to a body of work that emerged in research on behavioral decision making over the last decade. One of the major experimental paradigms employed to study experienced-based choice is the sampling paradigm, which ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Some optimality principles of sentence pronunciation

open access: yes, 1998
This is a compilation of handouts from 5 classes, Fall 1994, MIT, in which the proposal is advanced that the output of syntax feeds a system that determines how syntactic units are pronounced -- for example, optional and obligatory patterns of deletion ...

Prosodic domains and ambisyllabicity in optimality theory

open access: yes, 1997
Selkirk 1984, 1986, Nespor & Vogel 1986 and others independently argue that PrWd structure is built from morphological structure. In Optimality Theory, Generalized Alignment (McCarthy & Prince 1993b) has been successful in encoding the close relationship

Evolution, Perfection, and Theories of Language

open access: yesBiolinguistics, 2009
In this article it is argued that evolutionary plausibility must be made an important constraining factor when building theories of language. Recent suggestions that presume that language is necessarily a perfect or optimal system are at odds with this ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

mic Efficiency and Pareto Optimality in a Stochastic OLG Model with Production and Social Security [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze the interaction between risk sharing and capital accumulation in a stochastic OLG model with production. We give a complete characterization of interim Pareto optimality.

Coordination in Optimality Theory

open access: yes, 2005
This dissertation provides an analysis of coordination within a restricted version of Optimality Theory (OT), operating exclusively with alignment and faithfulness constraints.

A bird's eye view over a Scandinavian isogloss : exponence of definiteness (in word prosody)

open access: yesBrünner Beiträge zur Germanistik und Nordistik, 2016
The articulation of definiteness in the Scandinavian languages displays an intricate and complex pattern where all levels of grammar are involved.
