Optimization of Ethanol-water Composition as Extraction Solvent in Producing Sambung Nyawa (Gynura Procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) Leaves Dry Extract [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sambung Nyawa leaves (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr has been widely used as herbal medicine which requires a quality improvement of the dry extract for industrial production. Extraction solvent optimization is one key factor which determines the quality.

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Joint Optimal Power Allocation and Relay Selection Scheme in Energy Harvesting Two-Way Relaying Network

open access: yesFuture Internet, 2019
In this paper, we propose a joint power allocation, time switching (TS) factor and relay selection scheme for an energy harvesting two-way relaying communication network (TWRN), where two transceivers exchange information with the help of a wireless ...

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Hepatitis C virus infection and Parkinson’s disease: insights from a joint sex-stratified BioOptimatics meta-analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection poses a significant public health challenge and often leads to long-term health complications and even death. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with a proposed viral etiology.

Low-cost quasi-global optimization of expensive electromagnetic simulation models by inverse surrogates and response features

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Conceptual design of contemporary high-frequency structures is typically followed by a careful tuning of their parameters, predominantly the geometry ones. The process aims at improving the relevant performance figures, and may be quite expensive.

Personalized Optimization for Computer Experiments with Environmental Inputs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Optimization problems with both control variables and environmental variables arise in many fields. This paper introduces a framework of personalized optimization to han- dle such problems. Unlike traditional robust optimization, personalized optimization devotes to finding a series of optimal control variables for different values of environmental ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Optimal Bunching without Optimal Control [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2005
This paper presents simple sufficient conditions under which optimal bunches in adverse-selection principal-agent problems can be characterized without using optimal control theory.
