Effect of alloying on mechanical properties of as cast ferritic nodular cast irons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The development of low temperature applications for ferritic nodular cast irons calls for improved materials in the as cast state, e.g. for off-shore windmills components.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Optimum Temperatures for Germination of Winterfat [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Range Management, 1972
Previous literature has indicated that the temperature requirements for germination of winterfat (Eurotia Zanata (Pursh) Moq.) have been only partly resolved (Hilton, 1941; Springfield, 1968a; U. S. Forest Service, 1948; Workman and West, 1967). To learn more about the effects of temperature on the germination of winterfat, a series of tests were ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Optimum Choice for Reference Temperature in Evaluation of Curing Cycles

open access: yes, 1979
An exact expression for the optimum reference temperature to be used in evaluating curing cycles is developed. This reference temperature minimizes the dependence of the equivalent cure time on the activation energy.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Increasing NaCl Concentration by Using Precipitation and Filtration Process at Optimum Temperature

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2017
The sodium chloride salt or (food salt) is commonly used for consumption in our homes, as well as a raw material in industries and laboratories. The quality of this salt mainly depends on the sodium chloride concentration.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
