A new glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) variant associated with chronic nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia was discovered in Japan. The patient showed hemolytic crises after upper respiratory infections. The enzyme activity was about 3.8% of the normal.

Gentamicin nucleotidyltransferase, AAD 2", catalyzes the transfer of a nucleotide to many aminoglycoside antibiotics, which are the drugs of choice in the treatment of gram-negative bacterial infections. The transfer is accompanied by the production of pyrophosphate, which is coupled to three other enzymes so that an increase in absorbance at 340 nm of

Anion‐exchange chromatography of partially purified human HL‐60 topoisomerase II resolves the known α (170 kDa) and β (180 kDa) isoenzymes at 150 mM NaCl and 230 mM NaCl, respectively. An additional topoisomerase II fraction was eluted by > 300 mM NaCl.

In the detection of m -level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) signals transmitted over a noisy linear \nu -symbol memory channel, maximum likelihood sequence detection (MLSD) is asymptotically optimum in the sense that the exponent of the probability of symbol error in the limit of small noise is the largest that can be achieved by any detector.

The highest percentage proportion in the life cycle costs is represented by peripheral constructions. Determination of the optimum variant considered from the viewpoint of the economic effectiveness of real estate development is carried out by analyzing the investment and operating costs of peripheral constructions. The aim of the paper is to determine

AbstractThe optimum process design for a heat exchanger type of reactor is derived through a selection of process conditions which give the minimum volume of reactor for a fixed conversion of a particular reactant. The method is illustrated by calculations on an ammonia synthesis reactor using an analog computer equipped with a bi‐variant function ...
