Coupling Optional Pólya Trees and the Two Sample Problem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Statistical Association, 2011
Testing and characterizing the difference between two data samples is of fundamental interest in statistics. Existing methods such as Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Cramer-von-Mises tests do not scale well as the dimensionality increases and provides no easy way to characterize the difference should it exist.

Efficient anaerobic sediment processing via a novel sediment core extruder

open access: yesMethodsX, 2022
Collection, extrusion and sampling of sediment cores are common methods used to explore the biogeochemistry of marine and lake deposits. We present a novel design for a sediment-core extruder that has greatly improved our core processing efficiency and ...

An improved convolution algorithm for discretely sampled Asian options [PDF]

open access: yesQuantitative Finance, 2009
We suggest an improved FFT pricing algorithm for discretely sampled Asian options with general independently distributed returns in the underlying. Our work complements the studies of Carverhill and Clewlow [Risk, 1990, 3(4), 25–29], Benhamou [J. Comput. Finance, 2002, 6(1), 49–68], and Fusai and Meucci [J. Bank. Finance, 2008, 32(10), 2076–2088], and,

Mitigating the conflict between pitfall-trap sampling and conservation of terrestrial subterranean communities in caves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2017
Subterranean habitats are known for their rich endemic fauna and high vulnerability to disturbance. Many methods and techniques are used to sample the biodiversity of terrestrial invertebrate fauna in caves, among which pitfall trapping remains one of ...

A Matched Asymptotic Expansions Approach to Continuity Corrections for Discretely Sampled Options. Part 1: Barrier Options [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mathematical Finance, 2007
We discuss the ‘continuity correction’ that should be applied to relate the prices of discretely sampled barrier options and their continuouslysampled equivalents. Using a matched asymptotic expansions approach we show that the correction of Broadie, Glasserman & Kou (Mathematical Finance 7, 325 (1997)) can be applied in a very wide variety of cases ...

Conditional Sampling for Barrier Option Pricing under the LT Method [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Financial Mathematics, 2013
We develop a conditional sampling scheme for pricing knock-out barrier options under the Linear Transformations (LT) algorithm from Imai and Tan (2006). We compare our new method to an existing conditional Monte Carlo scheme from Glasserman and Staum (2001), and show that a substantial variance reduction is achieved.

Efficient estimation method of population mean with non-response and observational error under ORRT models

open access: yesResearch in Statistics
This study addresses the difficulties faced by surveyors in collecting responses to sensitive questions, which lead to non-sampling errors such as non-response and observational error.
