Experimental observation of chimera and cluster states in a minimal globally coupled network
A "chimera state" is a dynamical pattern that occurs in a network of coupled identical oscillators when the symmetry of the oscillator population is broken into synchronous and asynchronous parts.

Ultralow phase noise optoelectronic oscillator
Abstract The optoelectronic oscillator(OEO)’s main technological advantage over the traditional microwave oscillator is its ultra-low phase noise property. In this article, we have been using a high-power low-RIN laser, a long fiber loop, and an ultra-low noise optical connection to generate an OEO with a phase noise of -162.5dBc/Hz ...

Flicker noise in high-speed p-i-n photodiodes
The microwave signal at the output of a photodiode that detects a modulated optical beam contains the phase noise phi(t) and the amplitude noise alpha(t) of the detector.

Synchronization of Coupled Boolean Phase Oscillators
We design, characterize, and couple Boolean phase oscillators that include state-dependent feedback delay. The state-dependent delay allows us to realize an adjustable coupling strength, even though only Boolean signals are exchanged.

Optoelectronic Oscillators with Hollow-core Fibres
Optoelectronic oscillators (OEOs) are capable of generating microwave signals with high spectral purity (i.e. with high short-term stability) using optical energy sources and optical energy storage elements. Optical fibre delay-lines are commonly used in OEOs as the optical energy storage element and the spectral purity of the generated microwave ...

Spike-Afferent Visual Optoelectronic Nerve (SAVON) for Retinomorphic Sensing Applications
In this paper, we propose a 2D-material based Spike-Afferent Visual Optoelectronic Nerve (SAVON) circuit, emulating integrated photoreceptive and spike encoding properties of the biological counterpart.

Recent Advances in Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Integrated Photonics
This review systematically surveys recent advances in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) within integrated photonics. It begins by elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of stimulated coupling between photons and acoustic phonons in nanoscale waveguides, enhanced by the photoelastic and moving boundary effects.
