Carbohydrate Research, 1979Abstract The mucilage extracted from the cladodes (modified stems) of Opuntia ficus-indica contains residues of d -galactose, d -xylose, l -arabinose, l -rhamnose, and d -galacturonic acid. Seasonal variation in the sugar composition of the mucilage has been investigated.

Phytochemistry, 1972Abstract The result of the incorporation of doubly labelled tyrosine into indicaxanthin in the fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica shows that the dihydropyridine moiety of the pigment originates from dopa by extradiol cleavage of the aromatic ring.
