Efficient Generation of Small Intestinal Epithelial-like Cells from Human iPSCs for Drug Absorption and Metabolism Studies

open access: yesStem Cell Reports, 2018
Summary: The small intestine plays an important role in the absorption and metabolism of oral drugs. In the current evaluation system, it is difficult to predict the precise absorption and metabolism of oral drugs.

Comparative Analysis of Substrate-Free Cultured Oral Mucosal Epithelial Cell Sheets from Cells of Subjects with and without Stevens-Johnson Syndrome for Use in Ocular Surface Reconstruction. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
To compare the regenerative potential of cultured oral mucosal epithelial cells sheets (COMECs) from Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) subjects with those from non-SJS subjects.Human oral mucosal epithelial cells from SJS and non-SJS subjects were cultured,

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Vitrification and storage of oral mucosa epithelial cell sheets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, 2019
Shipping time and shipping delays might affect the quality of the stem cells based engineered "organs." In our laboratory, we have developed a limbal stem cell deficient (LSCD) rabbit model. To reverse the LSCD, we cultured oral mucosal epithelial cells for 2-3 weeks and engineered cultured autologous oral mucosa epithelial cell sheets (CAOMECS), which

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

ULTRASTRUCTURAL STUDY ON THE LINING EPITHELIUM OF THE ORAL ROOF OF THE CAT FISH (CLARIAS GARIEPINUS) [PDF]

open access: yesKafrelsheikh Veterinary Medical Journal, 2006
An ultrastructural study was performed on the epithelium of the oral roof of the cat fish (Clarias gariepinus). The epithelium of the oral roof of cat fish was formed from multilayered epithelium of different types of cells; ordinary epithelial cells ...
