Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Contrasting actions of ginsenosides Rb1 and Rg1 on glucose tolerance in rats

open access: yesChinese Journal of Physiology, 2019
Ginsenoside profile of Panax ginseng is changing with season and cultivated soil. Yet, dose-response relationship of main ginsenosides on metabolic measures has not been documented in vivo.

Predictive Value of Fasting Plasma Glucose on First Antenatal Visit before 20 Weeks of Gestation to Diagnose Gestational Diabetes Mellitus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2018
Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is an important public health concern due to its association with adverse foetomaternal outcome. Steadily increasing prevalence necessitates screening and early treatment of women at risk of developing ...

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Role of positive glucose challenge test only versus oral glucose tolerance test in pregnancy outcome: a comparative study

open access: yesJournal of Pathology of Nepal, 2019
Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance which is first recognized during pregnancy and is associated with a number of adverse perinatal outcomes, such as neonatal hypoglycemia, macrosomia with an ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Acromegaly with initial negative oral glucose tolerance test: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2023
Background Acromegaly can be diagnosed by a growth hormone value ≥ 1 µg/L following an oral glucose tolerance test. However, normal growth hormone suppression following oral glucose tolerance test may not exclude acromegaly.

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.
