Periodic Orbit Quantization beyond Semiclassics

open access: yes, 1995
A quantum generalization of the semiclassical theory of Gutzwiller is given. The new formulation leads to systematic orbit-by-orbit inclusion of higher $\hbar$ contributions to the spectral determinant.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Enhanced YOLOv8-based method for space debris detection using cross-scale feature fusion

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
Optical observations play a crucial role in monitoring space debris, and long exposure large field-of-view telescopes exhibit robust detection capabilities for identifying space debris.

Mature teratoma presenting as orbital cellulitis in a 5-month-old baby

open access: yesAnnals of Saudi Medicine, 2013
We have presented an interesting case of an unexpected orbital tumor in a 5-month-old female healthy baby who presented initially with a 1-week history of acute left proptosis, swollen eyelid, conjunctival chemosis and exposure keratopathy.

Impact of Dresselhaus vs. Rashba spin-orbit coupling on the Holstein polaron

open access: yes, 2012
We utilize an exact variational numerical procedure to calculate the ground state properties of a polaron in the presence of Rashba and linear Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Intramuscular orbital schwannoma: case report and review of the literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Ophthalmology
Orbital schwannomas are benign tumors that arise from Schwann cells in the peripheral nerves in the orbit. They typically present after the second decade of life given their slow growth and rarely before then.

Three-body spin-orbit forces from chiral two-pion exchange

open access: yes, 2003
Using chiral perturbation theory, we calculate the density-dependent spin-orbit coupling generated by the two-pion exchange three-nucleon interaction involving virtual $\Delta$-isobar excitation.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Behaviour of entropy under bounded and integrable orbit equivalence

open access: yes, 2016
Let $G$ and $H$ be infinite finitely generated amenable groups. This paper studies two notions of equivalence between actions of such groups on standard Borel probability spaces.
