Estradiol-induced vitellogenin gene expression in a teleost fish, oreochromis aureus
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1991Vitellogenesis presents a versatile model for the study of hormone-induced gene expression. We report here the effects of estradiol-17 beta-propionate on vitellogenin gene expression in male Oreochromis aureus, a teleost fish. Vitellogenin mRNA of 6500 nucleotides has been elucidated from the livers of female and estradiol-treated male O. aureus.

Preservation of Tilapia (Oreochromis aureus) Fillet by Isochoric (Constant Volume) Freezing
, 2020The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of isochoric freezing on the quality of tilapia fillet. Isochoric freezing was compared to chilling, super-chilling, and freezing.

Abstract Streptococcus iniae is a hemolytic, Gram-positive bacterium that causes significant disease problems in freshwater and marine fish species throughout the world. Since first diagnosed in March 1992, S. iniae has become one of the most common bacterial diseases and causes significant economic losses in cultured hybrid tilapia ( Oreochromis

A growth trial was conducted to investigate the effect of chromium on growth and carbohydrate utilization of hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus X Oreochromis aureus. Fish (average initial body weight = 1.3 g) were fed four experimental diets formulated to 45% glucose or dextrin, with or without 2 mg chromium/kg as chromium picolinate (Cr-Pic), for 8

Variability in reproductive performance of sex-reversed tilapia Oreochromis aureus
Aquaculture, 2008Abstract The reproductive performance of two O. aureus pseudofemale groups was studied in three successive breeding seasons. At the end of the first breeding season, the two initial groups of pseudofemales were divided in two new experimental groups, the first with pseudofemales spawning more than three spawns (HSR = High Spawning Rate ...

Periodicity of reproductive behaviour by the blue tilapia,Oreochromis aureus
Environmental Biology of Fishes, 1996Oreochromis aureus exhibits a diel periodicity of spawning when maintained on a controlled 14:10 light:dark photoperiod, with a peak in spawning activity during the 11th hour of light. That this periodicity of spawning is a response to light is supported by phase-shifting the light cycle by seven hours.

Dietary manganese requirements of juvenile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus
Aquaculture, 2008Abstract To quantify the dietary manganese (Mn) requirements of juvenile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus ), manganese sulfate was added to the basal diet at 0, 3, 6, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60 mg Mn/kg diet providing the actual dietary value of 2.89, 5.86, 8.57, 13.54, 18.51, 23.48, 33.37 and 63.43 mg Mn/kg diet, respectively.
