Duck Orbivirus and Egg Production: A Newly Identified Duck Orbivirus Is the Etiological Agent of Egg Production Decline in Chinese Breeder Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.

The power of many: when genetics met yeasts and high‐throughput

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In recent years, complex technological capabilities have evolved, driven by the need to solve complex and integrative biological questions through global analyses. New equipment allows the scaling up and automation of processes which previously were carried out on a very limited scale.

Comparative study on three locally developed live orf virus vaccines for sheep in Saudi Arabia

open access: yesOnderstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research, 2012
The epidemiology of orf virus infection in Saudi Arabia (SA) has been researched since 1990. The results obtained during this period indicate that the disease is widespread, has great economic impact and that no vaccine has been used against it.

Sacrifice feast disease: Orf

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2020
Orf disease is a zoonotic infectious caused by parapox virus transmitted by contaminated meat that entered from the disrupted skin. It is usually seen in butchers, farmers, or people who have contact with meat of infected animals commonly in sacrifice ...

Lung Cancer Patients Display Increased Expression of Bovine Meat and Milk Factor (BMMF) Proteins in Peritumor Alveolar Macrophages

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Plasmid‐like DNA sequences frequently found in bovine milk and serum have been proposed as infectious agents promoting indirect carcinogenesis. This multi‐omics study detected immune cells positive for these bovine meat and milk factors (BMMFs) in patients with lung cancer, with BMMF expression inversely correlated with smoking intensity.

The T‐Cell Response Mechanism in Human Papillomavirus‐Associated Cervical Cancer and New Strategies for Immunotherapy

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a double‐stranded DNA virus that infects human skin and mucosal tissues exclusively. The German scientist Harald zur Hausen was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the link between HPV infection and cervical cancer.

Co-dependence of HTLV-1 p12 and p8 functions in virus persistence.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2014
HTLV-1 orf-I is linked to immune evasion, viral replication and persistence. Examining the orf-I sequence of 160 HTLV-1-infected individuals; we found polymorphism of orf-I that alters the relative amounts of p12 and its cleavage product p8. Three groups

Toward Predicting Pandemic Potential: A Comparative Analysis of Virus‐Host Interactions Between Diverse Influenza A Viruses and the Human Innate Immune System

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic infections caused by influenza A viruses (IAVs) of animal origin are a major public health concern, as they may represent the initial step toward the emergence of a pandemic strain. The host range of IAVs is shaped by species‐specific virus‐host interactions, and several host barriers have been identified that restrict the adaptation ...

Orf virus encodes a functional dUTPase gene

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2002
The present study is the first report on the functional activity of a parapoxvirus-encoded dUTPase. The dUTPase gene of the attenuated orf virus (ORFV), strain D1701, was expressed as a bacterial thioredoxin fusion protein. In vitroassays showed that ORFV dUTPase was highly specific for dUTP as substrate.
