Maintaining organ viability from extraction to transplantation is crucial to ensure the function and survival of the graft. In recent years, maintaining organ viability has become more challenging because the shortage of donors has led to broader criteria for donor acceptability and consequently to organs with greater compromise.

For organ preservation in Europe the Euro-Collins-, UW- and HTK-solution are preferred. While the HTK-solution is mainly used for heart preservation, the UW-solution has shown its advantages for longterm preservation of kidney, liver and pancreas. With regard to renal preservation the HTK-solution provides a higher buffer capacity.

Organ-Preserving Pancreatectomy
2017The organ-preserving pancreatectomy offers surgical method which can minimize the functional loss and decrease in quality of life. However, this is performed at the cost of compromised radicality. Therefore, organ-preserving pancreatectomy is suitable for low-grade malignant neoplasms of pancreas and not for malignant diseases except for pancreatic ...

Potential Organ Donor: Organ Preservation
2012Intensive care and organ donation have been related ever since the concept of brain death, i.e., death due to brain-related criteria was introduced. Even though the term potential organ donor is extensively used, there exists neither scientific evidence nor consensus criteria for defining a potential organ donor (Bell 2010).
