Strategies for organ preservation: Current prospective and challenges
Cell Biology International, 2023In current therapeutic approaches, transplantation of organs provides the best available treatment for a myriad of end‐stage organ failures. However, shortage of organ donors, lacunae in preservation methods, and lack of a suitable match are the major ...

Preservation Solutions for Solid Organ Transplantation
Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2006Solid organ transplantation was one of the greatest medical advances of the 20th century. Current preservation technology falls short of maintaining organs ex vivo in perpetuity. This review examines the biochemical basis of organ degradation in response to ischaemia, preservation solution composition and potential future organ preservation technology.

Organ preservation solutions for whole organ pancreas transplantation
Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2011University of Wisconsin solution is currently the most commonly used solution for abdominal organ transplantation and is the standard to which newer solutions are compared. In recent years, we have witnessed the introduction of two alternative preservation solutions, histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) solution and Celsior solution, into the ...

CLINICAL ORGAN PRESERVATION WITH UW SOLUTION

Endothelial cell toxicity of solid-organ preservation solutions
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1990Endothelial cell damage caused by myocardial cardioplegic solutions (Bretschneider HTK and St. Thomas' Hospital No. 2) or renal and hepatic cold storage solutions (modified Collins and University of Wisconsin solution) was assessed in monolayer cultures of adult human venous endothelial cells at 4 degrees to 10 degrees C with phase-contrast microscopy.

Abdominal Organ Preservation Solutions in the Age of Machine Perfusion
Transplantation, 2022The past decade has been the foreground for a radical revolution in the field of preservation in abdominal organ transplantation. Perfusion has increasingly replaced static cold storage as the preferred and even gold standard preservation method for marginal-quality organs.

New organ preservation solutions.
Kidney international. Supplement, 1992In 1969 we described a method for kidney preservation that used a brief flush with a new "intracellular" solution followed by ice storage. This paper stimulated research into optimizing solution composition culminating in the UW solution which is now the accepted standard.

Infection Transmission Through Organ Preservation Solutions
Infectious Diseases in Clinical PracticeAbstract Organ preservation solutions have become vital for successful transplantation, and with the ever-rising number of transplantations yearly, pathogenic contamination poses a significant threat to the recipient, leading to posttransplant infections and complications.

New Solution for Organ Preservation
1990Two methods are used to preserve organs for clinical transplantation: simple cold storage (CS) and continuous machine perfusion (MP). Simple cold storage uses a flushing solution to replace the blood in the organ and to cool the organ to about 4°C.
