Regulatory immune cells in transplantation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Immune regulation is fundamental to any immune response to ensure that it is appropriate for the perceived threat to the host. Following cell and organ transplantation, it is essential to control both the innate immune response triggered by the injured ...

Race and Household Income Are Associated With Disease Outcomes in Pediatric Patients With Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody–Associated Vasculitis Hospitalized in the United States

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Race and household income impact outcomes in patients with rheumatic conditions; however, their role in pediatric antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)–associated vasculitis (AAV) remains poorly understood. We aimed to evaluate whether race and ethnicity and household income are associated with severe AAV disease and renal outcomes among

Immunosuppressant nonadherence profile in kidney transplant recipients and the impact of medication adherence on transplant outcomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
BackgroundDespite the fact that 1-year graft and recipient survival rates are above 90% in most transplant centers, improving long-term graft survival remains an important challenge.

The Impact of Presumed Consent Legislation on Cadaveric Organ Donation: A Cross Country Study [PDF]

open access: yes
In the U.S., Great Britain, and in many other countries, the gap between the demand and the supply of human organs for transplantation is on the rise, despite the efforts of governments and health agencies to promote donor registration. In some countries

Cyclosporine and organ transplantation

open access: yesCleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, 1985
Cyclosporine is a potent new immunosuppressive agent which is now available for use in clinical transplantation. It has a unique mechanism of action, interfering primarily with the cell-mediated response to foreign antigens. Cyclosporine has been very effective in preventing early graft loss due to rejection and has resulted in improved graft survival ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Competition and Post-Transplant Outcomes in Cadaveric Liver Transplantation under the MELD Scoring System [PDF]

open access: yes
Previous researchers have modelled the decision to accept a donor organ for transplantation as a Markov decision problem, the solution to which is often a control-limit optimal policy: accept any organ whose match quality exceeds some health-dependent ...

The Determinants of the Willingness to be an Organ Donor [PDF]

open access: yes
The total value of life lost due to death because of waiting for an organ transplant is greater than $4 billion annually in the United States, and the excess demand for organs has been increasing over time.
