An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Deciphering organic substrate impacts in Anammox systems: A machine learning driven framework for predictive classification and process mechanism analysis

open access: yesEnvironment International
The response mechanisms of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) systems to organic compounds have been extensively characterized, yet the synergistic impacts of organic classification and concentration gradients remain debated due to inconsistencies in

Mikro-Determination of Oxygen in Organic Compounds

open access: yesJournal of the agricultural chemical society of Japan, 1954
There are many difficulties in the direct determination of oxygen by the method of UNTERZAUCHER. In this modification, the CO produced by the high temperature-carbon was oxidized with CuO (oxidation-furnace shown in Fig. 1. E) and the CO2 was determined gravimetrically. The temperature of the oxidation furnace was fixed at 235° (Fig. 4).

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Comparative metabolomic analysis of exudates of microcystin-producing and microcystin-free Microcystis aeruginosa strains

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cHABs) dominated by Microcystis aeruginosa threaten the ecological integrity and beneficial uses of lakes globally. In addition to producing hepatotoxic microcystins (MC), M.

Empirical LCAO parameters for $\pi$ molecular orbitals in planar organic molecules

open access: yes, 2008
We present a parametrization within a simplified LCAO model (a type of Hueckel model) for the description of $\pi$ molecular orbitals in organic molecules containing $\pi$-bonds between carbon, nitrogen, or oxygen atoms with $sp^2$ hybridization, which ...

Biological Purification of Chemically Pre-Treated Dairy Wastewater Before Discharge into a Municipal Sewage Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Dairy production is one of the most inefficient processes with respect to water usage in the food industry. It was estimated that the production of a litre of milk creates three to four litres of wastewater.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
